Golf Course/Club Websites
« on: September 29, 2011, 10:21:23 AM »
What are your favorite ones out there?   What are the attributes that make them good? Public vs. Private. What do members want vs. what do enthusiasts want (pictures, information)? Which are the best golf websites out there for actual courses/clubs?

Some of my favorites:

http://www.shoreacres1916.com – old school with little to no info

http://www.oakmont-countryclub.org  - nice

http://www.lochlomond.com – one of the prettiest in the world

http://www.prestwickgc.co.uk – pretty damn good for an old school club

http://www.pebblebeach.com – a little over the top and more about the resort than course.

http://www.bandondunesgolf.com  - solid

What are you best? What makes them great?  What is the best golf course website out there?

Also, what are the great courses out there without websites? Chicago Golf Club, Cypress Point, Seminole, etc. Dont need them....or do they? If only for the members and their guests. And for the rest of us to see....

I'm a huge fan of golf clubs having webcams --- also, a nice benefit for national / international members.

RD is very well done: http://www.royaldornoch.com/Webcams

http://www.kiawahislandclub.com -- Pretty site. Nice navigation.

http://www.kingsleyclub.com – One of the best course tours with photos and aerials. (Ignore the busy homepage)

http://www.pinehurst.com/ -- Solid overview of resort and courses. Nice, new dedcated site for No. 2 via http://pinehurstnumber2.com

http://www.hiddencreekclub.com -- All the info guests and prospective members would need on the club, course, membership options.  Separate log-in on homepage for members.

http://www.bullsbaygolf.com -- No detail overlooked, including the initiation fee for membership.

Yeaman's Hall is a good example of a club that (to outsiders) doesn't appear to have a website. It's not indexed on google, but it has a site, accessible to those who know the URL. It provides all the basic info a guest would want. Obviously, I couldn't peer behind the curtain so I have no comment on that.

Great topic, I have asked about Olympic and MPCC getting webcams for different reasons. Both courses have fog and dramatic weather changes. The memberships can be close of far away but the weather and fog completely different. It would bring people out or help the players remember to bring their proper cloths. Notwithstanding both are in incredibly beautiful locations for members to see during the day from their offices. Both have great websites which do add to golf experience

So what are the other clubs like this with no or very hard to find websites?

In terms of golf courses, I like Ballyneal's web site in terms of description of the golf course.  They have the drawings next to the pictures.  A web site that you should check out is Diamond Creek - it is in the form of a book with the pages turning.  Note user friendly but unique and cool.

In terms of golf course architectural firms, the best is Renaissance Golf Design's.  When I took the time to review modern architect web sites, I found 90% were about the lead guy or guys.  Renaissance's is really cool as they have dedicated space on the web site for all of their associates and let them post pictures with their families and kids.  Just really nice to see the team approach in actions not just words - like most companies.

Many of you may like this site.  It's the Medinah Heritage Collection.  There will be a lot more coming in preparation for the Ryder Cup.

The club's general website is a nice representation as well.

I look at these sites all the time and I like to see the layout, scorecard and a course tour with some photos.  A couple that I really like

Harvester - http://www.harvestergolf.com

Bent Tree (Iowa) - http://benttreegolfcb.com

HAHA that is funny, but try the link to their site normally and you'll see what I mean:

http://www.yeamanhallclub.com/

It doesn't work.

Does Pine Valley or Cypress Point even have a website? Is there a need or value for one?

Bandon updated its website:

http://www.bandondunesgolf.com/

Much improved with hole-by-hole photos and videos for each course. For example, Pac Dunes:
