There is only one point I would add.  Our debate was about the set up for the US Open, an important, but still only one event.  For 99.9% of the golf played, I'm on the same page as you are. Disagreements can easily be magnified when you lose sight of how much you argree on.

Got in too late on this topic to read the posts but all I'll say is, 1) you should be able to find your ball, and 2) a chance of a reasonable recovery shot should be available at least a portion of the time!
