Being completely blind, the original at North Berwick is unlike all of the others in this thread.

Richard,

You really don't put any weight behind being the original and inspiration for all of the others?

I think an original is certainly a quality hole since it was good enough to inspire other designs just like it. However, I don't necessarily think just because it is the first, it is the best representation of that idea.

Richard,

#9 at CC of Fairfield (CT) - almost entirely blind and very interesting ground short of the green.

Kiawah Island, The Ocean Course, Hole #8

I thought Kiawah's redan was the 14th. 8 isn't really a redan, and is closer to a reverse redan than anything.

By the way, are we taking reverse redan nominations? Cause if so LACC #11 is a hole which deserves to be in this competition!

I second JNC for the reverse redan #6 at Fox Chapel...I suggest it has the most sloped Redan green of them all; if you are above the hole, enjoy the slide from left to right!!

As far as voting, Berwick, NGLA are 1, 2 -- no question.

Richard - This is going to be a quick competition. The 15th at North Berwick is THE REDAN... all others are pretenders to the throne.

I had a similar thought -- only NGLA would blow away the rest.

Stevinson Ranch has a interesting redan on the 7th hole.  Couldn't find a picture of it thou.  Perhaps some of the old school GCA'ers have one from the KP held there years ago.

I thought Kiawah's redan was the 14th. 8 isn't really a redan, and is closer to a reverse redan than anything.

Alex, you're right that #8 is a reverse redan, which I believe are being considered.

As for #14, this thread from last year questions whether that hole is a redan or not.

I have not played Kiawah in many years, but there is no way that Hole 8 is Redan. Nae kick mound, nae Redan, IMO.  Nice hole though.
