« on: October 20, 2009, 08:22:24 PM »
Heading to Bandon in 3 weeks so I'm looking for a good course to play on the drive from Portland to Bandon, is there anything worthwhile or should I just play all my rounds at Bandon?thanks in advance!

Anthony,

I played a couple courses on the way from Portland to Bandon during my one and only trip in 2006, but looking back I would just drive straight to the promised land.

Ryan - go directly to Bandon.

You will never regret playing all the rounds there.

If it's rainy in Portland, which it probably will be, golf will be marginal in November because most of the courses are all flat and low-lying.  That's one of the reasons Bandon is so popular among the locals in the Pacific Northwest.

Eugene CC trumps all of Portland.

Um, go straight to Bandon.  End of story.

Depending on when he gets in, he may not be able to get here and play the same day.

Eugene is very very good and worth a play if you can access.

You might as well drive there - if you stop in Eugene to play then you probably have to stay over there and get to Bandon later the next day which costs you a round at Bandon.

I meet a lot of guys at Ghost Creek on their way to Bandon and I am always like WTF, this is totally out of the way?

Remember, BDGR is 5 hours from the Portland airport so just land and get 'er done.

Bob, 5 hours in decent weather, but you can get a lot of rain on the way in November.

One note to keep in mind - it sometimes snows in the coast range (which you need to traverse on the way to 101).  There are times when you legally need chains on your car up there - I personally remember a couple of times US26 was "chains required" around Thanksgiving.

So, keep your eyes on the road conditions, and adjust as you see fit.  OR126 from Eugene is usually your best bet over in bad weather.
