A Pictorial: The Gleaneagles Queens Course!!! New
« on: August 24, 2009, 12:26:06 PM »
The Queens course is a bit shorter than the Kings course at Gleneagles, but it is equally interesting around the greens and provides a sturdy challenge for a course of such modest yardage thanks to its undulating topography. Overall, I thought the Kings presented compelling holes on a more consistent basis – the first 6 holes on the Queens are rather forgettable. Both courses are way overpriced at 155 quid; but if one ignores the price, the Queens is enjoyable place to hack around for a few hours.

Thanks very much for posting .

I have always found the Queens a very enjoyable course to play .

I don't hate the 6th, but I don't remember it as anything special. What do you love about it?

Thanks again Kyle. The 17th is one of the most itimidating par 3's I've played. .....A little story....When I played there a short shower came up before we played the 12th hole. When we got to the green the shower had flushed out all these midgies. They were all over your face you could not even breath without getting one in your mouth. I was encouraged by a playing partner to smoke one of his hand rolled "fags",but was not brave enough. I meen these little nats were thick around that pond. You felt like a dog peter. Had to play 13 and 14 with my pants unzipped just to try to keep these little pests out of my face. Must have been a 100 or more ducks on that little island all making noise at the same time. Could have been a different kind of bird but you could barely see. Didn't even putt out on 13. Rushed to play 14 and get away from the pond. But what a beautiful course.

I've heard a similar tale from Royal Dornoch. Sounds ghastly!

Not sure which course, but, Gleneagles is on the G channel right now.

Kyle,

Thanks for these pictures. I know the other 2 courses at Gleneagles, but its nice to see the Queens which I would love to play one day. Stunning backdrop and fun looking golf!

No pictures of the first few holes. Was it dodgy weather, did you forget to take your camera out or are they nothing special?

Suprised to hear about midges at Dornoch. I always thought they were only really on the west coast and central areas, and the east coast pretty clear? It always has been when I've been there?

Cheers,

James

Kyle,

I'm interested in how you think parkland golf in Scotland compares to the US.  Did you find Gleneagles enjoyable, especially after all the links golf?  Is it a worthy diversion to a Scotland trip?

Being non-links, and forever out of the Open Championship rota, the Gleneagles courses have always suffered in reputation.  But it features some of the most magnificent Highland countryside views in Scotland, and these pictures of the Queens course capture a lot of that.

I really fell in love with one of the oddest features of the whole Gleneagles Resort (apart from the Land Rover Test-Track); the Wee Course.  The Wee Course is to "miniature golf" what The Old Course, Muirfield or North Berwick are to "golf."

One of my regrets is that I never got to Gleneagles when I was in Scotland.  For some reason it never appealed to me.  That was a mistake.  Thanks for reminding me that I need to get there.
