You may not have known this but actually the government moved out of Philadelphia for fear of the British! They moved the government out to Lancaster, Pa!

It's too damn bad GAP wasn't around back then. If me and my GAP boys had been able to take out after those over-dressed British dandies, we'd have chased them back beyond where they came from and we'd be holding the Philadephia Amateur at Sunningdale next month and Jamie Slonis would be defending his Patterson Cup at Woking!

TEPaul,

I can only offer my assessment of the ANGC I played, not the one that existed prior my play, nor the one that exists subsequent to my play.

I'm sure that those who have never played there can offer more cogent evaluations    :)

Pat:

I'm not offering an assessment of ANGC, only that there have been a multitude of changes--something that you really don't have to play the course to know, or even have to have seen it on TV--all you have to do is follow all the changes that ANGC has announced every year for decades to understand why it's sometimes known as the Michael Jackson of Classic golf architecture.

;) Might I suggest a careful examination of Alistair Mackenzies' THE SPIRIT OF SAINT ANDREWS before comtemplating any redesign at Pebble Beach, or anywhere else for that matter. The master himself comments on how few redesigns are successful and how many are just plain awful.

How did the Doctor rate the redesigns of Muirfield and Carnoustie and Lahinch and Shinnecock and even the Old course (since it was famously "reversed")?

Esteemed Doyen:

The proper way of making your point is to say, "If my GAP boys and me....".

I'm not certain Michael Jackson has actually been "improved"
by all his changes.  I am more certain that ANGC is, in fact, the better for its ongoing upgrades - except for the stupid tree that forces a power fade off the new 8th tee box!

You don't know my GAP boys! If I talk proper to them they're not half so motivated, and would probably see little difference between me and those overdressed British dandies who all talk proper!
