What? They couldn't afford water?

The course is designed by Christy O'Connor Jr.. It's just outside Dublin. I've never played it. The photograph of that hole, a par 3 (I think), was used is most of the promotional material on the course.

I like O'Connor's personality, but this looks hideous. :(

Reminds me of this green site at Taconic, except that the Stiles/Van Kleek version is infinitely better:

It seems rather obvious that Christy has never talked with a Super about pinch points and turf.  Forget the aesthetic for a moment and think about traffic, both human and equipment.  pitty...

It is the 10th hole on the PGA National which is a Christy O'Connor design from about 2002...

If there is one course that epitomises the brashness of Ireland's Celtic Tiger years, then this is it...

Anyone have a ground level view? Might look a lot different/better. Sometimes aerials really look goofy.

I've played PGA National. They spent a lot of money cramming in water features etc.

I like O'Connor designs, like Esker Hills and Headfort New, but I didn't like this one. It was built so a questionable businessman could sell property around it for outrageous prices.

I believe they're trying to swap their course for Newlands, another course in Dublin.

At least he left it open in front so you could run it up ...................  :D

Why not finish the job, build a sand mote?

Where is everybody? Where is Tommy N? Where is John K? Where is Jay F? What has happened here? Has my absence caused this chaos? I'm sorry. All my rowdy friends have settled down ......... somewhere else!

Greenfees for this course were 130 euro, but are now half that. It's approaching the correct price point.

A lot of Irish golfers will love this kind of course, but it's not for me.

What's the distance on this hole?  If it's sub-150 yards I can imagine Dye building something like that at #17 Sawgrass before Alice talked him into the watery surround.

Looks very similar to some of the high-end golf courses you see in China etc... i.e. Like a Disney version of a golf course.

I think Nicklaus was originally penned in to design this course, but something happened.

The person who owns it is, eh, well, he used to be involved in dodgey stuff. Eventually made a lot of money by buying up all the old infrastructure and damaged tanks etc left over from the Falklands war. An interesting character.
