Adams Mountain Country Club (Eagle, CO) Pictures
« on: May 27, 2009, 09:55:58 PM »
Adams Mountain Country Club is a brand new private club that opened up in 2007, everything is built including a massive clubhouse, member cottages, and about 5 homes on 5+ acre lots.  This is an exclusive club that is tucked back into the valley of Eagle, CO.   Adams Rib Ranch is the name of the whole property which consists of over 1,600 acres, when you are driving to the club you pass though about 5 miles of his property that is all occupied by horses (very cool drive).  The golf couse is a Tom Weiskopf designed course that strectes over 7,100 yards, which isn't that long considering the elevation is over 6,500 feet.  The front nine is in open valley on the high part of the property, and the back nine runs on the lower part of the property with 6 holes running alongside brush creek.  This is my new workplace for the summer since stone eagle gets WAY too hot in the summer, and I am already loving it here in Colorado.

Hole 1 Par 4 (440 yards)   This fairway is soooooooo wide to start out with, about 60 yards wide.

Hole 2 Par 4 (430 yards)

Hole 3 Par 5 (560 yards)  This is a cool hole with a bunker in the middle of the green, Weiskopf must like Riv 6 because this isn't the only time he has done that.

Hole 4 Par 4 (360 yards)  A good short par 4 with bunker all over the place, must thread the needle with your drive

Hole 5 Par 3 (187 yards)  A nice uphill par 3 with a good looking background, two of the par 3's the green is hidden from the tee

Hole 6 Par 4 (485 yards)  This is a good downhill hole, you can rip a tee shot over the bunker and be left with only 130 yards in.

Hole 7 Par 4 (380 yards)  Then you have a uphill tee shot, then the approach is to a puchbowl type green with a lot of undulation.

Hole 8 Par 3 (244 yards)  This hole is impossible to select the right club, way downhill then elevation distance, really easy to end up short.

Hole 9 Par 5 (570 yards)

Now the start of the back nine, this side is amazing in my opinion a lot of variety in holes, great views, a river running through, it can't get much better than this on a nice summer day.

Hole 10 Par 4 (440 yards)  A cool hole with a blind tee shot over a hill, then you approach the green crossing a dry gully

Hole 11 Par 4 (430 yards)  Great hole, you have to place your tee shot just perfect to have a good approach in, to far left you leave yourself over 180 yards, if you put it right by the creek on the right side of the fairway you have a wedge in.

Hole 12 Par 3 (183 yards)  A very scenic par 3, with a undulating green, its pretty hard to hit the green, its set at an akward angle.

Hole 13 Par 4 (310 Yards)  A very very good driveable par 4, with the river running down the left side and an array of bunkers lining the right, you have to hit a perfect tight draw.  And the green has a couple ridges running through it, not an easy par if you miss the fairway.

Hole 14 Par 5 (510 yards)  This is a great risk reward par 5, you are always left in the 225 distance wondering if you should go for it or not.  If you lay up it really isn't that favorable since you are usually left with over 120 yards in, and if you go for it you better hit it good because it is a pretty small target with the river left of the green and trees right.

Hole 15 Par 4 (440 yards) A very cool looking tee shot that is asking for a draw around the trees
Here is the view of the river to the left of the tee

Hole 16 Par 3 (190 yards)  A good looking par 3, same thing as number 5 with the green hidden below, where you can't see your tee shot land.

Hole 17 Par 5 (560 yards)  A tight tee shot with bunkers left and water right, then the second shot is a lot of fun, you either lay up to the left of the bunkers leaving a blind approach or lay up to the right leaving a short wedge in but with the ball way above your feet.  It is a small long green.

Hole 18 Par 4 (445 yards)  A great finishing hole, you hit your tee shot over the crest of a hill with a little cut and then cross a ravine to a green raised with bunkers all on the right side.

I played there last summer and posted a few photos--I don't think many other GCA'ers have seen it. I was pleasantly surprised not knowing much about the course going in. Its more player friendly than many of the other recent designs I've seen but still is a good test for the low-handicapper. Its certainly in a beautiful part of the country. Good risk/reward options on the back nine at 13, 14, and 17.

I must admit I have never heard of it before, but it certainly is visually appealing to me. I've played enough Weiskopf designs to think he is very good at laying out a golf course. Judging from what I see, I'll bet it's a great way to spend 4 hours. Thanks for showing us the course.

I am a huge sucker for courses with (presumably) trout streams and vistas of snow-capped mountains.  What a great place to spend a summer!

I'm with Sean on this one.

Scenery looks fabulous.  It appears to be well secluded and not surrounded by buildings.

But the golf course looks like a Doak 5-6
What does it matter if the poor player can putt all the way from tee to green, provided that he has to zigzag so frequently that he takes six or seven putts to reach it?     --Alistair Mackenzie--

It probably is a Doak 6 give or take--that's still pretty good. Its well worth playing if one's in the area and has access--I'm not sure I'd fly across the country just to play it. There's a fair amount of good golf in the area.

Looks kind of bland to me, flat and boring
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

I agree with Sean and Cary; it looks like a solid golf course but by no means one worth groveling to play or really travelling outside your immeadiate area to play.  When you compare this to the pictures of Ballyhack their really is little compairison; IMO.  I just get the feeling as been there and done that.  The bunkering seems bland.  Hope I didn't offend anyone.

My everyone is being politically correct!

Nothing wrong with a Doak 5-6, that's still one of the best courses in the region.

Is there any course in the area that's better than a Doak 6?

Well, I just got here but the only other course that might rank higher are the courses at Red Sky, either the Fazio or the Norman.  Other than that you have the typical mountain golf courses in western colorado in the rockies.

Have you played Engh's Lakota Canyon Ranch in Carbondale?  I don't think that is very typical. Worth a visit if you haven't, particularly if you haven't played an Engh course. Also I was pleasantly surprised by Eagle Ranch, a public course there in Eagle. Although there is some intrusive housing, the course has some really good holes on the back nine, which has more topography.

I did play Redlands Mesa on the way out here and wasn't overly impressed, im sure I will get to LCR sometime while I am here but from what I have heard it is not better than a 6, and I did play Eagle Ranch the first day I was here and I agree there is some good golf holes on the back nine, but by no means a better course than Adams Mountain.

I definitely think Lakota Canyon is the best of the bunch in that area out of the bunch that I've seen. Roaring Fork would be my second choice. Beyond those two Adam's Mountain is as good as anything else that I've seen (including Red Sky).

Lakota is a bit polarizing, but I'd give it a 7 minimum.

I read that the Brightwater Club (RTJ Jr.) down the road from you in Gypsum is "hibernating" during 2009 (ie the course/facilities are closed this year). Not a good sign...
