Bala is one of the real old courses still going strong in Philly.  The architect of the current version is William Flynn (not James Flynn as the article says).

Joe,

No mention of Willie Tucker designing the original course?   Doesn't another one of your club articles cite him, and not Hickman?

Also, we'll have to tell Wayne about "James" Flynn.  ;)

Thanks for that info about George Klauder.   It appears he had a ton of design and construction experience prior to Cobbs.

Also, perhaps it's my memory going but I thought last time we were in the Free Library you were going through a series of VERY old articles that included Bala and you said to me that Tucker was indeed verified in the article?

Thanks for jogging my memory!  I do have a review of Bala from a series of 1908 North American articles.  It does say the course was laid out by Willie Tucker.  This article I printed out manually, so I need to scan it now and I'll post it soon.

I'd forgotten that I found another series of golf course reviews in the North American, these from 1908, and one of them was on the Bala Golf Club.  Late in the article below you'll see the Willie Tucker attribution:
