Did a little more link hunting and apparently this has something to do with Robert Burns' 250th birthday. They always show a golf course when they mention his name so he must have been a famous early golfer.
Anyway, a few clicks gets you to a site promoting open 72-hole, multiple-course tournaments called "homecoming classics."
They look like pretty good deals, at least from the American perspective. For example the tourney 26th - 30th April plays Royal Dornoch, Golspie, Brora & Tain. Four rounds, five nights accommodation plus a dinner "from" £527, based on sharing a twin / double room...
