Richmond - Richmond officials are closing an 85-year-old city golf course in an effort to save money.
The city's Parks Board voted Monday to convert the nine-hole Glen Miller Golf Course into a three-hole practice course and driving range.
Parks Board chairman Avis Stewart says the course will be unstaffed, but maintained as a "green space." The other six holes may be developed for alternative uses, such as walking paths and disc golf.
Board members say they may also have to close the city's 18-hole Highland Lakes course if finances continue to deteriorate.
The parks department's golf division has had deficits of more than $300,000 over the last six years while operating both courses.
