Golf Course Builders.org picture - can Obama fix this picture?
« on: November 06, 2008, 03:45:14 PM »

From the gcbaa.org website.
I realize that this has been discussed in length on the economics thread, but when I saw this it really hit home.

Ron,

This map is telling us that there's not a single golf course currently under construction in the continental United States? If so, it can't be accurate. I was speaking with someone today about a project that's under construction, working as we speak.

Ron -

Of all the problems facing the new administration and our country, this one does not even make the list.

The zeros represent job opportunities. I failed to mention that on the post.  Sorry, I don't start many threads. I suspect it is for shapers, etc.  It could just be the website.  I am sure someone is building.  In fact a nine hole course is being built down the road from where I live.

We have three golf projects on the board right now in TN.  Two are currently under construction and one is in early stages of routing and staking to start next year.

Ballyhack GC
The Dormie Club
The Cliffs at High Carolina

They are building golf courses - most shaping jobs are inside tracks working directly with designers / architects and the crews on the ground making it all come together.

Recently the NGF lowered their estimates for courses built in the US in 2008.
currently there were 65 and they project 75 or so for the year.

What is everyones guess for 2009?

I'll guess 55-60. (which would mean each state gets an upgrade to 0-2. :) )

This is down from 100+ in 2007 & 2006
That is a big difference.

Cheers

P.S.
I was ignoring the whole political side....

This is kind of an odd question. Yes, the new administration should be able to fix this picture, but not directly. If they can stimulate the economy and get businesses and consumers to spend more money, then yes, this map will change. This map does not present a problem in itself, it reflects a more major problem across the whole nation.

For someone who was supposed to bring new blood to Washington and be a uniter, seems to be batting 0 for 2 so far with his picks.

The more things change, the more things stay the same.

I don't think Chief of Staff is a place where you want a real 'change' agent in place. That is one of the more important positions in the executive branch and a place where someone with real experience and a firm spine is good. I think the change is not going to come in his cabinet, but in the legislation he sends down to Congress. For that matter, how would Warren Buffett be a 'change' at Sec of Treasury? He's one of the most established people on Wall Street and the Richest or 2nd Richest man on Earth. I think the Cabinet positions need to be well established people, with expansive knowledge, who can make up for any potential weaknesses that Obama may have.

Of course Obama can fix this.

Everything can be solved through wealth redistribution.
