Is NOW the time to hire an A-List Architect?
« on: November 06, 2008, 07:25:18 PM »
I was talking to someone today about how the poor economy can be used to the advantage of golf clubs.

I realize that some clubs aren't in the position to spend money, but if a club has some capital to play with, now would be the time to get a great architect. Right?  I don't know how all the gcas are doing out there, I'm sure some are keeping busy (overseas, uber wealthy private owners, etc) but I can only imagine that many others are not. Some architects are probably considering work that they would have previously turned down; these are times when they can't be too picky about the work.

Why don't clubs take advantage of the lack of design work and lock-in a top notch architect to do a project?

Adam,

You would also assume this would trickle down through the subs, the materials such as irrigation and drainage parts, as well as soils, sands and turf.

But, I think everyone who is in the business is trying to stay alive by turning some sort of profit, not just doing work. The cost of fuels, labor, shipping etc., have kept prices higher than I would have thought they would be.

I am finishing some work on the house, and had to pick up 7 boards for trim today. They were 8 footers and 10 footers. It cost me a whopping 170 bucks for those pristine boards in a sluggish construction economy.

What is a top notch designer?
Do you think their fees have dropped?
What would you have them do?
Renovations?
Sell more memberships?

Wouldn't it make more sense to hire me and put their money to more efficient use?
And keep a sustainable maintenance budget....
