Most Consecutive Par 4's
« on: October 17, 2008, 04:58:50 PM »
The back-to-back par 5's thread got me wondering what course has the most consecutive par 4's.  Anyone have any suggestions.

This doesn't officially count, but when Tualatin CC was undergoing a remodelling we started with seven par 4s (current 16-18, 1-4).

The least consecutive par 4s was Spring Hill in Albany OR. None of its six par fours were consecutive. This was also true of the 3s and 5s, and all remain true no matter  what hole you start on.

My home club, Alexandria Golf Club, starts with 5 consecutive Par 4's.  One par three and one par 5 on the front nine.

Indiana University's course has four par 4s in a row twice, both on the back nine.

The most I have seen was at Harbour Town. Holes 8,9,10,11,12,13 are all tough par 4's.

Pete,

This is great stuff.  Not one instance of consecutive holes with the same par score.  Has to be unique.  It must have been planned.  How could this happen by accident?

Not quite as good as Spring Hill, which "cheats" by having 6 3s, 6 4s and 6 5s pas I recall is the course  I was a member at many years ago in Portland called Rock Creek Country Club.  The first hole was a par 4, but after that it went 4-3-4-5 for the next 16 holes before ending with a 4, making 1 and 2 the only place on the course with consecutive holes of the same par.

Erskine in Scotland opens with 5 consecutive par 4s and ends with 7.
Irvine, also in Scotland has 7 consecutive par 4s from the 9th to the 15th.
Bishop Auckland in Co Durham has only 2 par 4s on the front nine (with three consecutive par 5s 2nd-4th) and ends with 6 consecutive par 4s.

Lookout Point:

There's two things that happened there.

7-8-9 were 16, 17 and 18 in the old routing

16 and 17 were a 600 yard par five
18 used to dogleg right to a green in the big cut on the right 9 (it's still there) and there was short four playing over the valley where the range was (till it went accross the road) plating to the current chipping green.

If I remember correctly, Saunton (East) has one par-3 and eleven fours in its first 12 holes; it starts 4-4-4, 4-3-4, 4-4-4, 4-4-4.  The fifth and thirteenth are both KILLER par-threes.

In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.
