As I mentioned I'm not a smoker (never have been), plus I've lost a family member to lung cancer and am not exactly enamored with others who smoke, so I'm not going to defend smoking. Indeed, I poke fun of pro golfers who smoke. But where everyone who smokes these days understands (or should understand) the risks associated with smoking, where there's no question that you can't harm others by smoking outside, and where you can deal with the incredibly boorish behavior of leaving butts around by targeting that practice, I just don't see the argument for banning smoking on the golf course. I don't do it, and I prefer others don't do it around me, but to me that doesn't translate into a reason for prohibiting others from doing it.
