« on: October 17, 2008, 07:24:13 PM »
The Golf Digest rankings of the 100 best musician golfers is out and our boy Lloyd Cole is down three spots to no. 14.

"Lloyd Cole 5.9  British rocker lives in western Massachusetts, where he laments that only two of Donald Ross' original holes remain at home course, Wycoff Country Club."

Rudy Gatlin is ranked first with a +1.3 handicap.

One of the most intriguing of those rated is Tony Joe White, the man who wrote "Poke Salad Annie."

"T-52. Tony Joe White 12 Country singer plays golf in Nashville with Spalding clubs made in the 1920s.

But this list is woefully incomplete.  How could they have left off avid golfer Alex Zivojinovich, aka Alex Lifeson - guitarist of Rush?  He has an index of about 11 and plays out of both Scarboro and Coppinwood in Toronto.  Rush is a much better known band than many of the ones that made the list and it is not like they are ignoring Canadians as Anne Murray and Celine Dion were on the list.

Also how is JT on the list as 'about a 6'?

I thought 'Down Three Spots' might have been the name of Lloyd's new CD.

One of the top five or so is a guy named Griffin House who originally hails from Springfield, OH, the same hometown as one of my teammates.  He's played with Griffin a couple times and says the ~5 hcp indicated in the magazine is a gyp, as he says that House is much closer to scratch.

Lloyd,I just think its cool you are on the list.Plus, being a British Rocker has a certain ring to it.I guess there was a time being seen on a golf course would ruin your career(or situation as you might say)?

alex lifeson is a legit 11 - have played with him a few times

gil moore - drummer for canadian power trio Triumph is around a 3 index -a member at The National in Toronto - he is a really great player

canadian rocker Tom Cochrane (life is a highway) is low single digits - also a very good player

Gary Peterson - long time drummer for the Guess Who - i am told is a low single digit player

Frank Beard, drummer for ZZ Top is an avid golfer and huge Scotty Cameron putter collector. Not sure if he was listed or what his index might be.
"The mystique of Muirfield lingers on. So does the memory of Carnoustie's foreboding. So does the scenic wonder of Turnberry and the haunting incredibility of Prestwick, and the pleasant deception of Troon. But put them altogether and St. Andrew's can play their low ball for atmosphere." Dan Jenkins
