Michael Blake,

Where is your sense of adventure??   ::)

Sheesh man...I've never felt remotely unsafe at Cobb's and I've played there going all the way back to 1981.

It ain't Ardmore, admittedly.

I played there regularly in the early 1990's while in college.  On several occasions we felt unsafe.  Long time ago and probably just isolated occurrences.

Though no such feelings since.

And don't knock my sense of adventure.  I lived in West Philly for a few years.

Michael,

Touche'

To get Tom Paul out there Joe Bausch had to sabotage his car and then abduct him to Cobb's when he asked for a ride home from center city.

It's amazing the lengths we'll go to for this project.  ;)

I am heading up to Philly in 2 weeks to see a buddy of mine and play as much golf as possible.

I arrive in Philly early on Th. morning on October 2nd and am going to try and play as much golf as possible.  Renewing an old golf rivalary with a buddy of mine from college.

My list of places to try to play; and I mean TRY goes

1) Pine Valley
2) Merion
3) Huntington Valley
4) Philadelphia Country Club
5) Philadelphia Cricket Club
6) Manufactuers Golf Club
7) Aronomink
8) Wyncote

Any other suggestions; I am going to call my pro tomorrow (from a pretty exclusive club in Atlanta) and see what he can do for me.  My buddy has no contacts.

Any suggestions as to places I should play that maybe are not on my list; or what clubs should I tell my pro to call.  Some I am sure I should not even have him bother.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Kenny:
Sorry you can't play "ARONOMINK" until you learn how to spell it. ;D ;) ;D

My Trip:

Thursday: 12:00 Philmont North
Friday: 9:00 am Saucon Valley
Friday: 1:00 pm Lehigh
Saturday: 9:00 am White Manor
Saturday: 2:00 pm Glen Mills

I want to thank everyone for all the advice; I am very fired up about it.

Any locals know if the leaves will be colored the 1st weekend of October?

Now I just need to get my golf game back in shape; my buddy who I am going to visit is an incredibly talented player that never plays.  My game has gone to total sh.....as of late.
So if I can figure that out then it will be fun and we will have some intense matches.

Definitely Lehigh and Saucon Valley.  If it stays warm, it may be too early for the others.  BTW, which course at Saucon are you playing?

Weyhill,

What do you mean it may be too early for the others?  Frost?

What do you know about Philmont; playing the North course there.

Fall foliage is more a function of warmer weather than frost. There will be maps of prime season foliage around on the web. Here's one:

Re: Philmont ... Just don't get your host started on the Flynn attribution. :D Lehigh is definitely a Flynn course. Philmont is a par 70,only 2 par5s, if the greens are firm they will be speedy and tricky.

Kenny -  definitely take a drve down Golf House road - slowly - and you can see a lot of the back 9 at Merion.  Or better yet, park the car and walk the road.  I think it's the best great golf course/public viewing anywhere.

There is no way I will not take the drive down golf course road; thank you for the tip.

Now I have to figure out how to think about work for the next 2 weeks so i can pay for all this golf.

Thank you everyone for all of your help.

There is nothing I love more than traveling and expierencing golf in different parts of the country.

I'm late to the game, but I thought I'd chime in:

Glen Mills is fantastic.  I've only played two Bobby Weed courses (GM and The Olde Farm) but both were phenomenal.
