New Course Photos--Who Done It?
« on: August 30, 2008, 08:55:13 PM »
I'm sure knowing this group that someone will have seen this course...if so please let others have a chance to take a guess. I'll reveal the answer once we get some guesses (or after awhile anyway if no one bothers...)

Who's the architect for this course?

Edit: And of course...what do you think of it?

Good grief.  The bunker in the second photo is, as my Swedish girl friend from twenty years ago would say, yuge!

I think its in Naples, just made top 100 Golf Digest, Calusa Pines, Hurdzan and Fry.

Oops, just relooked and saw a mountain in the background, there are none in Florida.

Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

None of the above so far. As Cary noted, its also not in Florida  :D

The second photo (other than the little bunker near the green) is just a waste area--its a pretty sandy site as you can tell. The first one might be as well, but I'm not sure. It looks more like a formalized bunker up near the green, but I'm not sure the entire thing is considered a bunker.

Mira Vista?

I played it a while ago and I have no idea what the Doak redesign looks (or is going to look) like.   Just a guess based on the mountain, and the terrain.

Edit: Scratch that.  I just took a closer look.

Andy,

I haven't a clue, but I like it.

I'm going to take a guess the course in Colorado.  That should narrow it down a bit!!  ;D

I didn't know they had mountains in Texas...

I'd blissfully guess at it...  but I cheated...

I'm guessing Clint's right, it's Tom Fazio's new course in El Paso.

Anthony will be very surprised (but hopefully not disappointed) when he finally sees a picture of the former Mira Vista.  There aren't any bunkers which look anything like this.

That bunker would look much better if it DID NOT fall off into a waste area.
Best Played So Far This Season:
Crystal Downs CC (MI), The Bridge (NY), Canterbury GC (OH), Lakota Links (CO), Montauk Downs (NY), Sedge Valley (WI)

It is Butterfield Trail in El Paso, by Tom Fazio. The waste areas mirror the desert areas all over the course with desert shrubs in them. Some of them have been cleared (most likely because they needed the fill from digging them) into the waste areas as shown. Given a flat piece of desert, I think Fazio did a pretty admirable job making it a fun golf course. Its not minimalistic of course for what that's worth to some of you.

Not a big Fazio fan usually, but I like this one's look. The trees in the sand are a bit daft, of course, but otherwise it looks rugged and natural enough to me.
