With a fine group of people, a little wind a FUN way to spend an afternoon. Many people underestimate the importance of wind in making a course both fun and interesting. Really liked, #'s 4,6,7,9,,12,13, and 17, 14 from the back into a 15plus mph wind is a little much, need to play that one up next time.

love playing in moderate wind, with ground game in play!

Surprised nobody is commenting on #5, the 140-50 yard par 3 tucked into the corner.  OB all around and CLOSE.

It's been likened to the 17th at TPC except with a road around it instead of a lake.

This hole is NOT an easy 3 - especially with a prevailing left-right breeze that blows towards the OB.

The water holes get most of the notice, but #'s 2,4 and 5 are darn fine holes - better than most on the water IMO.

#1's a pretty good starter, I think.  Not difficult if you drive down the left but a very tough par from the right side - especially with a right pin.

#5 with left to right wind means aim for right side of #4 green.  Do people tee off on #5 while others are on #4 green.

#1 with f&f conditions is really tough to keep a ball in the fairway which may be the most narrow on the course.

Chip Oat-do you have any info on the plans for trees on the course?  Would hope that all future changes keep FUN in mind rather than attempting to make the course more like others. It is really unique and should stay that way.  the more it contrasts with the westchester courses (which all seem to aspire to be like WF) the better.

I know of no plans to remove trees - as you can see, they're actually planting some.

Corey- I couldn't agree more with your last statement.  Keep the unique fun features at Rockaway Hunting Club as the highest priority.  Its one of my favorite places to visit.

Chip - I also agree about #'s 2 and 4.  The #2 green is maybe the best on the whole course.  The long approach shot into #4 is really made for the ground game and watching the balls collect to the left is a treat.  On #6 the irregular rough on the right side of the dogleg along with the OB tempts one to try to shortcut the hole to get home in 2.  Good stuff.  I'm not a great fan of #5.  I managed to actually hit the green for the first time last week but lamely missed a short birdie effort.

I'm also not a fan of Stephen Kay's new bunkers- The placement of the new ones on #8 are fine but they don't look so hot- The mounds really look out of place but the new tee is great. On #16 the left side bunker he previously put in is also nondescript.  I'm undecided on the pot bunker with the stacked carpeting.

I really like the variety off the tee where some holes like #'s 1, 2, 10 and even 13 are demanding for precise placement and distance control while others like #6 and 12 and 17 give a lot more room but have better sides to play from.

As I have mentioned to chip before the only thing i do not like at RHC is the tee shot on 15. For some reason, approaching the fairway from a perpendicular angle rubs me the wrong way.

Can you explain to me the tree plantings betwee 11-12? i haven't seen it and i'm trying to envision where they would go.

there are now trees planted left rough on 11 about from ~180 to 240 off the tee.  i think there were always some in this area.  i do not think they offer any protection for 12 tee, nor do i think they offer any protection for 11 tee coming back the other way.
