Kyle -

There was a thread here about this facility 3-6 months ago. You may be able to find it if you do a search for Stanford.

I find it interesting that they do not include a Donald Ross green. I think this is an interesting concept, but we have started seeing these type practice facilities in many places. I wish I could find a place in Pinehurst that I could make a place like that, I feel that there is a real market for places like this.

It's simply because they don't play tournaments on Ross courses, and aren't planning to, especially since there's only one Ross course anywhere in PAC-10 country and it's unlikely to host a college tournament anytime soon.

John Moore II

Matt--But I would think they would travel to the East Coast some. Some schools over here play Ross courses. Though, I suppose they may have incorporated some of the Ross features into the other greens with some run-offs and chipping areas.

Yeah, but it wouldn't be in the top 6, I don't think. Fazio, Dye, Mackenzie, and Jones Jr. had to be there; I'd say any other two would have been fine. Realistically I guess Ross would have been as good as any of them, now that I think about it.

John Moore II

Matt-Agreed, like I said, I don't think its much of a stretch to incorporate Ross features into the other greens. Fazio and Dye have run-offs in their designs, especially the Fazio's found in the NC Sandhills.

Not open to the public?  This is like posting a pic of Adriana Lima.  Wonderful facility...obviously.  There used to be a practice complex at the PGA in Port Saint Lucie, Florida that had different sands in the bunkers.  Don't know if it is still like that.

It's OK, repetition is no big deal.

Yes, the practice facility at PGA Village is still the same. I think it has 9 different bunkers with different constructions and types of sands. But you are not hitting to a real green, just an area prepared with flags and mown to fairway height.

I spoke to Jay Blasi about this project at Chambers Bay a few weeks back. They are very proud of the work and I hope to see it soon.
