Jeff Doer, does CB currently have 6 par 5's and 6 par 3's?

No, the setup is standard, but it does have that flexibility.

I do like adding to 15 and keeping 12 as a 4. I like the experiment at Torrey. I also liked the idea of moving the tees way up on some threes if a really tough pin position can be found.

In speaking to Larry Gilhully of the USGA he said Mike Davis thought very little would be done to alter things for the Open.  If I remember correctly I think he said there may be a couple green surfaces or areas of surface that may need some adjustment to make usable and there may be some concerns with the waste area sand.  It is early though.  I am sure the RTJII guys will be involved in any efforts.

I asked specifically about "narrowing the fairways" and he again didn't think that would happen.  If it is a true "links style' design the wider fairways should have purpose in setting up alternative angles to the differing pins.

Cos-

I think fescue will be here to stay. I know that other area courses have seen similar round counts and play, but in the thick of February after the announcement we were doing 140+ rounds a day. That is alot of wear for young greens in February.

Thanks to Scott for the reply regarding the age of the greens in comparison.

The lengthening of #15 would be to the 210 yard range. 12 looks to remain a par 4. The hole plays much better as a short par 4 than a long par 3.

Nice to here the announcement and the winter rates got a lot of players out!!  It should be very interesting to see how the greens hold up through the next several years and to see what kind of mix we end up with.  I doubt the fairways will change much as the mowing heights should give the fescue a better chance.

I'm lookimg forward to my next scheduled trip to Chambers in July!!  Any comments on the option os #16 as the reachable par 4 at just over 300 yards?

16 would be a neat drivable par 4.  That green and it's surroundings pose a great risk reward coming down the stretch.  The finish will be great as I took a look at the back tee on 17 just behind 16 green and if they put a back right pin on that shelf, it will take a great shot to get back there but also a tough hole to putt or chip to if you miss in anywhere.

I also am not sure if the fescue grass will hold up for another 8 years.  Until the greens become more lush we can expect green speeds to be around 8-9 on the stimp.  Does fescue hold up well to Poa Anna?

I have a few questions to people who have played it.  What are your thoughts on the approaches to holes #7 and to #4?  #7 has such a steep angle into that green with a very long iron.  Certainly something that have never seen in my life.  Is that steepness comparable to the approach at ANGC #9?  I couldn't imagine what some of the shorter players would hit in there if they played the far back tees.

Hole #4 just seems like no matter what angle you come in at, that massive bunker will be right on our line and the green with the massive slope at the back, doesn't have many flat spots on it.

My last concern is what are they going to do for spectators?  TP had grandstands on all of tees and greens and I just can't see many places where grandstands can be put at CB.

From what I remember, Chambers reminds me of Whistling Straits and the PGA obviously had enough room for spectators there so the USGA most have thought about that when choosing CB in 2015.

Does Bobby have no-fly rights in regards to Rees on this course?  Or could we see Rees doctor CB for 2015, no matter what Bobby wants?
