Twin Cities Golf

Business will bring me to the twin cities in a couple of weeks and I have an an afternoon open. I'm looking for a nice public course recommendation from the treehouse. Thanks in advance!

(Staying in center city Minneapolis, so prefer to be somewhat close to that.)

In terms of proximity to downtown MPLS, I'd say Keller would be your best bet if you are looking to commute by taxi.  It's a mature parkland course with some tournament history.  Hope the weather improves for you...it's been a miserable Spring.

My friend Chris Monti was the lead associate for Bobby Weed at StoneRidge, a public-access course right off on I-94, at Stillwater, MN on your way from Minneapolis to Madison, WI.

Depending on what afternoon I may be able to play. (And drive :))

My favorite public course in the Twin Cities area is Legends Golf Club in Prior Lake about 30 mins south of Downtown.

Dan, if travel is not an issue then I would throw these into the mix along with Legends, The Wilds (Weiskopf/Moorish) and  Chaska Town Course (Arthur Hills).  Chaska Town Course was the second course utilized in addition to Hazeltine National for the `06 US Amateur. 

The Wilds is in Shakopee which is not quite as far out as Prior Lake but in the same general area South West of downtown MPLS.

Since you are staying in Minneapolis and want to stay close, skip the aforementioned courses as all are pretty far out.

The City of Minneapolis has very good municipal courses.  Hiawatha, Columbia, Meadowbrook, Theodore Wirth, and Francis A. Gross.  If I'm not mistaken, Gross held the PGA Championship a long time ago.

My rank, in order:

1. Meadowbrook
2. Hiawatha
3. Gross
4. Columbia
5. Wirth

FWIW, I was born in the hospital overlooking the 12th? green of Wirth.

If you have time, take Hodgdon up on the offer to pick you up and drive.  Warning - the kid can hit the golf ball real, real far.

Keller is pretty far E if you are staying in Minneapolis. 

Bigger question than where to play...will Kelly recommend Braemar?
