Colonial's appeal for me isn't necessarily its strategic qualities, but the fact that the course as a whole promotes shotmaking and accuracy in a way that many PGA tour courses do not. It probably isn't one of the top 100 or 200 courses in the country, but it is very solid and interesting nonetheless.
Oak Hill will play soft because it has been a wet few weeks in upstate New York. However, I believe the course is very fair. It should be extremely difficult, but the rough will allow for recovery, a change from the 2003 PGA. The trees look ridiculous on TV, especially on flyovers. There seems to be a lot of room on the ground, but I hope that we can continue to remove trees against considerable resistance before the '13 PGA. Pay attention to how players will have serious problems reading the greens. Several greens (1, 3, 7, 9, 14, 16, 17) have very subtle interior contours that make it very difficult to consistently make putts.
