Just a quick update on Golspie. I have had a chance to play the course 4 times in the past week.  As RF Goodale notes in the opening post, the condition of the course is now quite good, certainly the best I have seen it in the past 5 years.

Alex Macdonald, the greenskeeper hired last July, has made great strides. He & his crew revetted many of the bunkers over this past winter and they look great.

A visit to Goslpie is highly recommended.  More often than not, the 1st tee is wide open.

Why do we seldom mention Nairn in discussion of the courses in and around Inverness?

I would choose Golspie over Tain, but both are very good golf courses.

The real universe is not "courses in and around Inverness," but courses "in and around Dornoch."  In that sense, Nairn is two bridges short of Paradise.

I certainly prefer Golspie over Tain and I am pretty sure Gary D. feels the opposite. In my mind, the biggest fault with Tain is that you only get close to the water on 1 or 2 holes. That being said, the majority of the holes at Tain do have a "linksy" feel to them.

Goslpie has 3 holes that run right along the water and the firth is visible on at least 7 or 8 other holes. Golspie does have 4-5 inland holes that are also very good. As noted elsewhere on this thread, Golspie's weakness is its 2 or 3 "meadowy" holes.
