Latest Golf Course Developments in Bermuda
« on: April 02, 2008, 02:45:34 PM »
I have just discussed this with a close friend who lives on the rock and is a member at Port Royal.

Port Royal is closed for 2008. The course is being rebuilt, the main changes are the 12th which is being changed from a par 3 to a par 4 and the 13th changed from a par 4 to a par 3. Also there are to be quite dramatic changes to the famous 16th - shape of green is supposedly going to be angled. The course is being extended from 6500 to 6750.

Jumeriah Development are seriouly looking at Morgan's Point a former US Naval Base - across the road from Port Royal. They are looking at building a 5 star hotel and a PGA standard course over 7000 yards. They are due to put in a planning application.

Faldo Course at St.George - my friend says that the longest hole is to be 360 yards and is a no-goer for him. The developer is more interested in the hotel.

Does anyone know who is doing the Port Royal renovations/improvements? and the latest information regarding Jumeriah and the Faldo Course at St Geaoge

Not much to that little course at St George, mostly fun for staying in their cottages and wandering out on the course late in the day with a couple of clubs and a six-pack!  ;D

There is one very neat par 3 where the green hangs out over the ocean and the rocks, and another from an elevated tee near castle rulns down onto a beach side green.

Bill,
Just played St. George yesterday.
Several of the holes have been chopped up for what looks like safety reasons (par 4's to par 3's or shorter par 4's) but no new design work going on yet.
pretty property but it looks like real estate is being sold in every spare place to the severe detriment of the course.

Perhaps a good 12 hole course is the answer.
They were working on the old eyesore hotel.

Mid Ocean sure is good.

Steve,

The latest I got from Bermuda is that St. George's new Faldo course by Bazarian is no longer going to be 6000 plus yards - my friend on the wee rock says there is more development proposed so that the course planned earlier has been reduced with the longest hole being 360 yards.
