Will discuss GCA in exchange for alcohol...
« on: March 24, 2008, 10:58:48 AM »
I'm up in Dornoch next week en famille and see on my members calendar that ASGCA is having a jolly up there and then.  Anybody looking for a shoulder to cry on and or just say hello, give me a shout.

Enjoy

I'm a little worried. With all those guys running around in their reddish tartan jackets, will this create some kind of 'turf' war with the local clan?

They've been there before and the sky hasn't fallen, although, come to think of it, their first such gathering was at the Burghfield, and is has since gone kaput...... :o

I've peeked at their itinerary and found that they're going to be wearing these new jackets, to make them less conspicuous with the local gangs and Interpol . . .

Do you get smarter about golf course architecture with the liberal use of alcohol?   ;)

Rich,

It's not worth it.

Well, hopefully since we'll be wearing the Ross clan tartan in honor of Donald Ross, they won't run us out of town.

Did you see the dusting of snow Dornoch received on Easter?

I'll be the only guy NOT wearing the Ross tartan.  You can't miss me!

Sure there will always be one guy that doesn't conform with his Tartan plaid.
No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.

What do you suppose the archies will want in exchange for talking with you?

Can anything good come from this?

Hopefully they won't find you like this the next morning in a public place.

I am not going to Scotland this time with ASGCA. I may have relayed the story, but I wanted my son to go and he refused a free trip to the home of golf.  I wonder if he really is my son? ???  Trust me, I had plenty of offers from guys wanting to be my son for this week!

One reason he cited was cold temps.  Maybe he was right. All the times we have gone in March-April we have not had snow.  It has been near freezing, but we have had only one day of rain on all our British Isles trips for ASGCA that I can recall.  The group has been blessed with weather since we started doing this in 1980.

Kalen:

Architecturally nothing good comes from an architect in the condition of that person in the photo in your reply #11. The good stuff comes the day before while he is working his way towards that condition you see in that photograph.

Furthermore, it is never a good idea for an architect to arise from that condition in post #11 and go out in the field and try to come up with interesting architectural ideas. That simply produces mundane and somewhat petty or pissy architecture. The modus operandi is to have some liberal hair of the dog and wait until the afternoon to let its effects work so one can get really smart again before getting into more creative ideas.

I had a saying I'd share with people who were feeling under the weather:  "Gin a cold, scotch a fever".  There were seasonal and geographical variations, of course...but not many.

Right Peter, but it is usually possible to "bourbon" most anything into submission!  ;)

Most everything in life is relative, Richard the Weird!

(By the way, if you could be the King of Scotland do you think King Richard the Weird would be an appropriate title? Furthermore, do you think a King of Scotland could be effective if his children laugh at most anything he does or says?).

Dan K - nice.

TE - you're right. I came relatively late to bourbon, and was sorry to have missed its benefits for so many years.

Tom, you had a nice tyop above--surely you meant "Richard the Wired"?  However, as I am a direct descendant of the English King Ethelred The Unready, any moniker you choose is fine by me and my courtiers.
