It’s a new year and already I’m messing up by posting a link to Brad Klein’s yearend piece for Golfweek, which deals with – yes, it’s true – architecture.

Not to hijack this thread, but when do y'all receive your Golfweek ?  I seem to get it about a week after the cover date.  I'm a relatively new subscriber and this just seems a lot different than the delivery schedule for monthly magazines.  Normal?  Or is my mailman taking his time reading my magazine

Klein lists Coore and Crenshaw as one time outsiders.  Is there any truth in that statement as I have always considered them as two of the classiest guys in golf.  The quote:

Indeed, if there’s one indisputable trend for the year, it’s that along with Hanse, one-time outsiders such as Tom Doak and the team of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw have become, if not mainstream, at least accepted within the fold as respected bearers of a tradition that has found a secure niche.

Even Doak and Hanse are Cornell graduates and recipients of prestigious architectural scholorships.  When were any of these guys outsiders?

If you are a developer trying to sell a house, they would not be the first pick and most of golf development over the last 10 years has been housing related.

Compared to Fazio, Nicklaus and The Jones to a limited degree, they are still chump change in terms of volume.

This is all stated with the understanding that Brad writes for a larger audience than 1500.

I forgot that without Golfweek the world would have never learned of Sand Hills or Ben Crenshaw.
