Paul - at Kiawah, I found Osprey Point and Cougar Point to be better than Turtle Point...Cougar was a pleasant surprise

however, they all pale in comparison to the Ocean Course...none of them are "must see", imho
199 played, only Augusta National left to play!

Happy New Year Paul.  I think you should move and play them all.
Since I know you will never leave Beverly (CC that is) I'll offer my thoughts.

Cougar Point Golf Club  Just OK

   Kiawah Island, SC

Cherokee Plantation  teriffic

   Yemassee, SC

Berkeley Hall - South--the place is more special than the courses.  Check out the practice area, however.
Berkeley Hall - North

   Bluffton, SC

Wachesaw Plantation Club Just OK

   Murrells Inlet, SC

Daniel Island - Ralston Creek  Neither the Fazio or the Jonese courses are great, they are good, however.

   Charleston, SC

Indigo Run, GC at don't bother

   Hilton Head, SC

Daniel Island - Beresford Creek see above

   Charleston, SC

Bull's Bay Have not played it but have friends from Musgsrove who are members and have heard good things about it, even from thoses who do not like Strantz.

   Mt Pleasant, SC   N

CC of Charleston Have not played it since all the work was done.  I was not enamored with the course, but is probably one of those "should Play" courses.  Has one of the only par threes that causes some very good players lay up.

   James Island, SC

Spring Island/Old Tabby Links Igt is like driving in to Jurassic Park with all the huge live oaks and tabby roads.  The front nine is excellent the back nine is a let down.  Well worth the time.  It has its own personality
   Okatie, SC

L

Osprey Point GC  don't bother

   Kiawah Island, SC

Chechesee Creek Not C&C's best but if you play Spring Island (Old Tabby) you might as well they are neighbors.

 Belfair is typical Fazio.

   Bluffton, SC

Melrose GC  Nice Ferry ride but awful Nicklaus

   Daufuskie Island, SC

Secession GC  Course is good and worth the time.  It is a good place to spend an afternoon.  Flat but interesting

   Gibbes Island, SC

Turtle Point GL  Forget it

   Kiawah Island, SC

River Course - Kiawah Island  If you play it play its Sister Cassique.  It looks goofy in pictures but is not bad.  Remember the two courses are about 20 minutes apart.

I am At May River and it is a very pleasant Nicklaus course; more like a Doak. See Ran M's review on the site. Not dramatic but one you could ease into plaaying a lot of given the chance.

Played the River course at Kiawah a couple of years ago.  Would be more excited to play it now after all the work done on it.

Chechessee Creek - just off Hilton Head in Okatie.  Played it in early December and loved it.  If I am gathering you are a member at Beverly, my host at Chechessee was a member at Beverly until a couple of years ago.  That may be a way to get on.

May River not dramatic??? WOW!!!

Your standards must be pretty damn high, Ward! I have just added the following to my "To Do Before I Die" list:  Visit a course Ward Peyronnin thinks is dramatic.

Let's talk.

Paul:

Everybody's doing a good job of reviewing/recommending the coastal courses, so I'll limit my comments (one exception, I'd make the effort necessary to play Bulls Bay) to midlands courses.

Camden Country Club
I'm a member, so I'm prejudiced but it's hard to argue that a Travis routing with Ross greens won't be very, very good.  Roughly 6500 yard par 70 with a set of par 3's I'd put up against anywhere in the world.  Excellent course that still defends itself (hosted an amateur qualifier a few years ago.....  Camden was the only final site where par qualified, par was medalist here; +2 qualified).

Florence Country Club
9 Ross holes, 9 from somebody else.  Good, very enjoyable course.

Patriot Course; Grand Harbor
Very good Davis Love course.

Camden is approximately 3 hours inland from Charleston (or Mount Pleasant), Florence or Greenwood would be around an hour from Camden (Greenwood maybe 1.5 hours).

Let me know if you'd like to trek up to the Midlands.  I'd be happy to host you at Camden, and help with any other arrangements.

I would scratch Oldfield (Okatie) off your list. It is an unremarkable course that might be worth playing if there weren't so many good and great courses in the area.

This is quite a list to consider, here's my two cents worth:

CC of Orangeburg - I know two of the former PGA Pros there and from what I can remember, it wasn't anything to plan a trip around

Heritage Club - I have played it once and remember that it is in the top 10 in MB, for what that is worth.

Leopards Chase - my Dad is a member there but I haven't played it yet.  I have ridden a bike around it several times during construction.  It looks like a beautiful, fun course, that I can't wait to play.  My Dad really enjoys it alot, we have had numerous discussions about the little man made pond and water fall on #18 (there's no elevation change on the hole for a waterfall to exist but it will sell some lots).

Cherokee Plantation - Definitely if you can

Mt Vintage Plantation - it looks like a nice course and gets decent reviews around here in nearby GA.

Berkeley Hall - South - I have several friends who have played there and just love it.

May River Course at Palmetto Bluff - I have one friend who plays here quite often and has played Cypress once and he says that May River is his favorite course.

Bull's Bay - make an effort to play.

Legends Golf Complex - Heathlands - One of my favorites in MB.  It's a lot of fun and different than most anything in the area.

Don't know if that helps at all.
