Re:The Open Courses - How Do You Rate Em?

Maybe it's the calm weather the last few Opens at St. Andrews or maybe it's Tiger's unquestioned dominance there, but I wonder whether TOC is well-suited to host the Open in July.  This may be heresy, but I'd rather watch an Open at Muirfield or Royal St. George's or even Royal Lytham.  TOC seems to have too many driveable par 4s and not enough trouble.  It's a much different (and more interesting) course in October when they play the Dunhill Links there.

I realize this thread was asking about personal playing preferences rather than the courses' suitability for hosting the Open, but I wondered whether anyone else was somewhat disappointed in TOC as an Open site.
The two biggest problems TOC has as an Open venue are pace of play (the double greens, shared fairways and routing are a nightmare) and access for the paying public.  At the Ladies Open I was struck by how few viewing points there are and, of course, there are no places between the holes to view from.  You'd be laughed at proposing that routing for a "modern" championship course from a viewing point of view (and from several other points of view, I suspect).

It always produces a good champion, though (and John Daly!)
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

On the current rota - my preferences are as follows (groupings):

St. Andrews (Old)
Muirfield
Royal St. George's

Carnoustie
Royal Birkdale
Royal Troon

Turnberry
Royal Lytham & St. Annes
Royal Liverpool

If including past Open venues - I'd probably include Portrush in the 1st group, Prestwick in the 2nd, Deal in the 3rd and Princes + Musselburgh in their own separate cluster.
