Old Mac - Before shot - Aerial
« on: December 29, 2007, 12:55:19 PM »
While I was tooling around with Google Earth I took this snapshot of what is, as best as I can tell, the land where Old Mac will be placed.

I know there was a thread going around a few weeks ago about the potential routing that would be used for Old Mac, but couldn't find it.  As a fun excercise if anyone wants to take it a step further, they could super-impose that routing on this screen shot....

It appears from this aerial that alot of the gorse has been cleared out.  As stated before I hope this covers most of the land where Old Mac will sit.

Is that Pacific Dunes #7 in the southwest corner?

Kalen:

That's MOST of the site, but you are missing the area for holes 14-15-16 (plus 13 green and 17 tee) which would be above the top of your photo, and I think you're missing the area for the par-3 fifth just off the page to the bottom of the photo.

The clubhouse site is to the bottom right of the photo, a bit north of the pond.  Holes 1 & 2 go up the inside (left) of that clearing, with 17 coming from off the page (top) to the outside (right), and 18 playing back on the far right.

Tom:

Is the routing an out and back?  Does it sort of "corkscrew" a la Cypress Point?

What does it matter if the poor player can putt all the way from tee to green, provided that he has to zigzag so frequently that he takes six or seven putts to reach it?     --Alistair Mackenzie--

Corkscrew?  Maybe, to some degree.  It certainly doesn't return to the clubhouse at the ninth hole ... the big dune separates the first two and last two holes from the rest of the course, and we are only going up and over it at the third and sixteenth holes.  Someone drew a rough diagram a couple of months back, based on my description.

I'll take an improved expanded aerial shot of the property based on Toms input and post it here.  And I'll also see if I can dig up the old thread that shows the routing and get that posted here as well.
