Congratulations to Bill and Kathleen McBride
« on: December 30, 2007, 08:54:32 PM »
Several of you have been blessed as I have to meet and get to know Bill's lovely wife Kathleen. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversery last night. I was honored to be there. They are one of the best couples I have ever met. Oh by the by Kathleen is a golfer too. They have now joined a most wonderful and rare club. I could not be happier for them.

Congrats, that is a wonderful accomplishment.  Hopefully my wife will stay with me long enough that we can get there someday!!

Is marriage easier with a golfing spouse or harder?

So long as she gives you your space for golf with the guys, it works out fine!  Our usual routine at home is I play Saturday with the fellows and we play couples golf on Sunday after breakfast at the club.

Kathleen didn't start playing until about 15 years ago, when our kids were getting ready to get out of school and she wasn't tied up at home.  She had always played tennis and run so it wasn't hard to get her started.

Now she plays a lot more than I do (but only on days that end in 'Y') and is a real junkie.  She also understands my passion about golf architecture, and will occasionally mention the poor design of a hole she's played, or how much she liked the way the architect made the hole play well for a short hitter like her.

We have travelled together and with another golfing couple and played quite a bit of golf on the road.  That makes it great.  She loved North Berwick and Crail and I even took her around Painswick in 2005.  She wasn't that enamored with Pennard  :-X , said it was a bit rough a hike for her.  But the views were terrific!

Thanks for the good wishes.  Who you marry is the most important decision of your life.

Thanks, Tiger.  Our kids organized a surprise party and it really was.  It was one of the highlights of our married life!  Glad you and Katie were there to enjoy it with us.

Bill,

Congratulations. When someone asked me how long I had been married, I replied that counting all of 'em it had to be some fifty years. They countered with a most unkind remark,' Whoa, fifty years of undetected crime."

Congratulations Bill and Kathleen !  I wish I could've crashed the festivities. With all the fun you two have together, I can only assume it was a quick forty years.
Happy Ruby Anniversary !

Bill -

Congrats to you and Kathleen. Kathleen has granted so many kitchen passes for your golfing escapades she has now earned full  canonization. I hope that is exactly what you are doing. BTW, I've asked my wife to call Kathleen to gain some perspective on the issue.

Again, congratulations. Looking forward to seeing you again soon.

Bills secret is revealed:

With a couple celebrating their 40th anniversary at the church, the minister asked Brother Bill to take a few minutes and share some insight into how he managed to live with the same woman all these years.

The husband shyly stood and turned to the audience: "Well, I treated her with respect, spent money on her, but mostly I took her traveling on special occasions."

The minister inquired, "Trips to where?"

"Well," the man says, "for our 20th anniversary, I took her to Beijing, China."

An appreciative murmer went up in the congregation.

The minister then said, "What a terrific example you are to all husbands, Bill. Please tell the bretheren what you're going to do for your wife on your 40th anniversary?"

"Big plans!" he said with a smile. "I'm headin' back to Beijing to pick her up!"

Bite your lip.  Katie is John's daughter who is in her third year at LSU.  ::)  And a lovely young lady.

But you know Tiger.  He has been sighted with good looking young ladies in the past who weren't his daughter!

Hey there Wild Bill and the saintly long suffering Kathleen, Cento di questi giorni!  07 was 40 for you, and only 30th for Jo Ann and I.  Whether it is on the golf course or 'la dolce vita', why am I always trailing you?  ;) ;D 8)

I do hope that we will get to someday lure you guys away from the enchanting Walled confines of Lucca and show you the cliffs of La Costiera Amalfitana!

Ciao amici.

Bette and I also conrads a fine couple
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta
