Lookout Mountain ...

has a relatively new neighbor - Canyon Ridge.

A few pics from a glorious fall day.

First shot of the day:

Drop shot 2nd on the par five 6th from about 240 out:

Looking back toward the upper fairway:

Nifty uphill one shotter playing 200 yards to an extreme back left pin (yellow flat barely visible over the rock:

Same par three from left of the three tiered green:

200 yards carry (regular tees) at the 9th (a good low wind cheater caught the rocks - it's significantly uphill to boot):

All in all, a splendid day on a fun golf course.

One of my fellow Pensacola CC members was up there with his wife last week, had a great time, really liked the course.  He also says there is a very good to excellent restaurant right there by the course.

Bill,

The Canyon Grill is just down the road and among other luminaries has hosted a table on the original Hillbilly Tour when Messrs. Hendren and Kavanaugh were joined by Lookout Mountain CC's excellent super - Mark Stovall.  Highly recommended.

That's the place.  It hasn't slipped any according to Chris and Martha.

Michael those are some exciting pictures.  I played Lookout severl years ago on a terrible day but really enjoyed the course.  Is Canyon Rdige private or is it fucntioning like a daily fee?  I was just telling my bride we need to go back soon and play there again.  Really looking forward to it now.

Would anyone who has played Canyon Ridge please comment on the par 5 shown in the second and third pictures?  I will say I found it to be truly awful.  If I remember correctly, there is no where to place a second shot, unless one is a low-handicapper going for the green from just in front of the rock ledge shown in the second photo.  For a middling player the hole seemed unplayable.

I didn't find much to like in the course.  It seemed to be a disparate and far-flung collection of holes shoe-horned into mountains and development.  The drive over the quarry shown in the 6th photo was impressive, as was the par 3 shown in the other picture, although the green was being bulldozed the day I played.
