New So. Cal courses?
« on: October 09, 2007, 03:15:12 PM »
Has anybody played or know anything about a few new courses in So. Cal:
The Links at Summerly in Lake Elsinore
Dos Lagos in Corona?
The Crossings at Carlsbad

the web site sounds very interesting for Summerly.
I love golf, the fightin irish, and beautiful women depending on the season and availability.

I shall be playing The Crossings at Carlsbad the day after Thanksgiving, and will report after that.  My brother has played it and said it's a monster... there has been some talk about it on here and I can't say my brother's crazy from what read and hear.  Apparently the architect was forced to make all sorts of compromises due to historical sites and environmental issues, and did the best he could...

Never heard of the others.  But it's damn near always good news when new courses open.

Tim, The Crossings is on an awful piece of property that would've been best served having industrial buildings there instead. I walked most of the course and talked with Nash's supervisor while there. In Nash's defense, the course had to be rerouted 10 times because of found dinosaur bones, indian burial mounds and infringing upon endangered bird fornicating grounds  :P ;D. To top it off, the green on 9 had a plane from nearby Palomar crash on it. It's not a very good course from what I saw and the fact that it's so expensive doesn't help.

As for the course in Lake Elsinore, I don't know much about it other than Cal Olson did it, which doesn't exactly excite me..... :-\

Tim, IMO Dos Lagos is to be avoided.  Built on a former silca sand extraction plant it is possibly the worst golf experience in SoCal (I know, that's saying a lot).  Cramped routing- I counted 3 balls that came within 10 yards of hitting me.  Difficult holes for high handicappers (read 6+ hour round).  On a couple of tee shots the best play was to drive into a steep hillside and hope for a bounce.

Let's not forget the Art Hills masterpiece opening soon at Pechanga. I flew over it yesterday in the Hindenberg and it looked fairly grown in..."oh, the humanity".

The sand plant @ Dos Lagos used to help pay our bills at work and that appears to have been the high-water usage of the property.

DS, give ol' Cal a chance here. Those ovals and lumps fit in perfectly with the mountains in the background. Just like the good doctor would have done! He's also a member in good standing at that top 100 layout in OC that we adore.
You'd make a fine little helper. What's your name?
