Pitreavie Tuesday 14 August
« on: August 12, 2007, 12:04:30 PM »
I'm intending to discover Pitreavie on Tuesday and have booked a tee time at 2.10 pm.  If anyone fancies joining me, let me know.
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

Mark, Enjoy the place, have a great time.

Although I didn't play it, I toured the course on my last day in Scotland in 1996, and the 6th hole still has me thinking I made a mistake not getting there sooner during my 3 weeks in Scotland.

Spose I best chip in here!

Mark, as you know, I can't join you on tues. Damn this whole work nonsense...however, you will have a ball at Pitr.

Look out for:
3rd green. eye-wateringly S-T-E-E-P contouring.
the 6th (as TN says - Nice!)
10 greensite
12...ahh, 12! Augusta 12 in embryo.
13 - brilliant cross hazarding. (if the eedjits had actually paid me, twould be a world-class hole now). GREAT green.
15 centreline bunker. woohoo!

Good, not great, golf course.

If you see anyone looking vaguely like a committee member, please feel free to offer them a right good smack in the mouth from moi!

cheers,
FBD.

Washed the people coal-black from the hole in the ground.

What a treat this was.  A course to go in the surprises thread.  Maintained to a higher standard Pitreavie would be a must play but even in its rather artisanal state it had enough great greens and variety of hole to make for a great afternoon's golf.  13 is a great hole which could only get better if they cut the fairway to the burn.  It was also a little soft (hardly surprising after the rains we had on Monday), if it had been firmer I'm sure my attempt to use the bank at the back of 12 to bring the ball in would have resulted in a stone dead 2!

In addition the the holes mentioned above, I loved 9 with a long narrow green running away from the tee, a pin at the front of that green on a dry day would make for some fun.
