One of our industry magazines rankes these courses as the top 20.  Did they leave any off the list?
1. Yale GC
2. Taconic GC - Williams College
3. Rawls Course - Texas Tech
4. Scarlet Course - OSU
5. The Orchards - Mount Hoyloke College
6. Univ. Ridge GC - Univ of Wisconsin
7. Stanford Golf Club
8. Colbert Hills - Kansas St. Univ.
9. Warren Golf Club - ND
10. Univ of Mich. GC
11. Univ. of New Mexico South
12. Duke University Golf Club
13. Univ of  Florida GC
14. Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex
15. Finley Golf Course - UNC
16. Radrick Farms GC - Univ of Mich
17. Penn State Univ GC White
18. JImmie Austin GC - Univ. of Oklahoma
19. Eisenhower GC Blue - USAF Acad.
20. Meadows at Grand Valley St. Univ

How about Forest Akers West at Michigan State?
I finally found a use for the Univ. of Mich. they have two good golf courses.

I've been told that the recently renovated Pete Dye course at Virginia Tech is pretty decent.

I have been to five of those.

U of M would be the top then OSU for me with Warren third.
Kampen (Purdue) and Jimmy Austin in Oklahoma would be pretty close.

The obvious one I can think of that is missing is Karsten Creek for Oklahoma State.

Don't know if it belongs, but what about Seven Oaks at Colgate?

I would order of the ones I've played:

1. UNM Championship
2. Warren at ND
3. Eisenhower Blue USAFA
4. Kampen at Purdue

The first three would all be pretty close in my book.

I have Yale over Stanford by a nose, and only in terms of their golf courses.

Karsten indeed, it should be Top 5 on that list.

Jimmie Austin, unfortunately, has no place on that list.

How about high school golf courses?  I'm thinking Hotchkiss and Culver.

Are all of those courses University owned, or are some owned by others, but allowed to function as team courses?

Yes, Karsten Creek ought to be there somewhere. It seems like the Big 12 has its share of good courses - Rawls, Colbert Hills, Karsten, and Baylor's Bear Ridge, Texas A&M's new course, which aren't on the list. Doesn't UT have a regular facility now, but not owned by them?

Jeff:

URidge is owned by the University of Wisconsin-Madison, but is open to public play nearly all the time (save for the occasional university or high school tourney). It's not that good.

The White is owned by dear ole' PSU; part of the restructuring/re-routing of the course highlighted by Kyle in his My Home Course piece was necessitated by Penn State building expansion plans on to parts of the course.

Jeff

I know UT's course (UT Golf Club, I think) is not owned by the school. Neither is A&M's new course (Traditions). As a student at A&M, I never had a chance to play the course. It's just a private golf/housing development where A&M's new golf facilities happen to be located. I imagine UT's is the same way.

I might be wrong, but I think all of the courses on the original list have at least some level of public access.

It was better than the old Duke course, but I have not seen Duke since Rees did his changes.

I agree, John.  Take golf out of the equation, and Yale's lead widens considerably.

What about Colgate?

Is Taconic Williams golf course or the  golf course that Williams uses?

While I am as true a Spartan as there is, I think the attempt to include Forest Akers West on that list is a bit aggressive.  Especially since they moved the clubhouse and now the old 14 and 8 are the new 9 and 10.  Completely erases everything Arthur Hills did to the routing and the flow of the golf course.
I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.

I was in Princeton last week and Princeton U's Springdale GC had just open a huge new clubhouse. I think they said that the course now starts on the old #4. The course looked good but not great, but I did not have time to play.

I understand that the Princeton course is a William Flynn course.

I hope Wayne Morrison sees this thread and comments on the course.

I saw it as a kid while visiting the Princeton seminary with my sunday school class, and still remember how inviting it looked.

What...no mention of the Orange and Blue courses at University of Illinois?  I was always amazed how the school got Steve Stricker, Mike Small or any other golfer to go to school there with those two tracks.

Of the ones I've played, I'd rank them:

1. University Ridge
2. Kampen
3. Warren
4. UNM (just played it last week)
5. U of I Orange
6. U of I Blue

I will likely be playing OSU Scarlet at some point this summer.

Jim,

The U of I courses have deteriorated through the years and they likely weren't in their current state when those players attended school there.  Currently the team calls Stone Creek in Urbana home (www.stonecreekgolfclub.com).  On top of that they are completing their new indoor/outdoor practice center (http://mfile.akamai.com/8108/wmv/cstv.download.akamai.com/8108/open/ill/06-07/video/genrel/08aug/080907_demirjian.asx).  They should have no trouble recruiting top notch players with their current facilities and coach.

Kyle,

I knew they had switched courses to Stone Creek, and the program is definitely on the rise.  I wonder what it's like being a good college player and having a coach that can whip your tail.  It was pretty bleak when I went to school there in the mid 90's.

Go Illini!

When I went to school in CU in the 70's the most memorable shot was trying to hit low flying aircraft with a wedge shot.  I am actually glad no one brought one down!

If I recall, wasn't this a design-build effort by CD Wagstaff?
