Oh No!! - JD is leading at Southern Hills
« on: August 09, 2007, 02:45:50 PM »
For some reason I can't rationally explain, he's been my favorite player to root for over the past decade.

The talent going to waste there is sad to see.

I just went to the leaderboard for the first time today and see he is likely to be the leader after Day 1.

I can't imagine how he's going to self-destruct this time, but it's almost as unavoidable as heat and humidity in Tulsa.

I for one don't want to watch it.

Try explaining it irrationally.

I'm not kidding. I'd love to see you try!

A pool I'm in allots you $20 to pick exactly 4 players with prices listed for each player (Tiger is $14!), with also some special "group" prices (ie four listed Big Ten players for $8, you get the best score of the four).  One of the specials is always "first round leader" - you get him for all four rounds.  $8 also.

I've never chosen it before, figuring in majors first round leaders mightily fade far more often then they stay at the top.... but this time I couldn't resist and spent that 40% of my budget on this entry.

Could you possibly think of a WORSE first-round leader than Daly?

I sure can't.  I need some time alone with my pick sheet, so I can use it in the toilet.

Ha ha, suppose the cut comes in around 146.  John must shoot 79 or better to play on the weekend.

Does anyone else see the symmetry of him leading the PGA at Southern Hills while there's USGA Women's Am. is going on at Crooked Stick?

Was there ever a better story than him winning the PGA there as an alternate?

If Daly wins in the heat this week, it will once and for all answer the question of whether or not golfers are athletes...

Offensive lineman dont seem much like athletes either.I dont think nor want him to win,but he has as good a bermuda rough short game as there has ever been. What a sad waste of talent in what in many respects seems to be a good hearted person.

Daly is way too fat and drunk to last 4 days in 100 plus weather ;D
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

I wonder if he's still hitched? there hasn't been much talk about his recent marriage in the press (unless I have missed it).
I do admit to pulling for him. I wish he'd give up the bottle all together, though. I think he still drinks beer.

Not to worry, I think you have someone named Graeme Storm.

JC - I swear when I saw Storm leading, I cheered.  I'll take him over Daly (as JD is today) with absolute conviction.  Of course I'm not exactly gaga it's Storm leading either... but I'll take him over Daly for sure.

I seriously think it's 50/50 JD makes the cut.  And yes I know what that means he has to shoot tomorrow.

Did anyone catch his post round interview?
Classic Daly.
He prepared by playing slots at the local casino for two days and played the casino course for practice.

I presume you knew that 6 out of the last 7 first round leaders at Southern Hills went on to win ?

Unfortunately Mr Storm is +2 through 3 .

Brian - I was - and am - aware of both of those things - that's why I spent so much of my budget on this pick.  And I surely could have done worse than Storm... like Daly, for example.  But I'm not sitting here rock-solid confident right now... and I would have said that at the end of yesterday as well.  Methinks it's a pretty safe bet the stat is gonna be 6 out of 8 come late Sunday afternoon.    :(

The weather for this afternoon is around 100 degrees and humid - I think the question is not what Daly shoots rather does Daly finish.

Go you Stormy!

 ;D

My other picks are "Big Ten" (I get the best of Donald, Stricker, Micheel, Lehman), Weir and Poulter.

So far Weir is really letting me down.  But it's best 3 out of 4 scores, so Stormy has me in 22nd place out of about 150 in the pool.

Concur.  Huckaby Casino puts odds are only 1:3 that he finishes... and over/under for his score today is 77.  Who here takes the under?

Boo Weakley tossed up a 65 today and if he had shot something closer to par on Thursday he would be leading or near the top...looks like a lot of low numbers today...maybe Tiger can shoot another 64?
No one is above the law. LOCK HIM UP!!!
