Not a single South African in the field for some reason. Els, Goosen, Sabbatini, Immelman, Clark, etc.

Chris, that's a very astute observation.

Els would have been there except for a conflict - he loves Congo.

what was the deal with the greens? there were a lot of complaints from the players. considering Tiger's distaste for bumpy greens at Pebble I wonder how he feels about his tournament's greens.

Tiger is coming off of Post-Oakmont Stress Disorder and can't anything to the hole.

What is the fuss about this course?? All the pros love it but I can't see much redeeming about it on TV.  18 is good but not that good.  Most holes are tight long fours with typical Rees bunkering.  Is the terrain any good?? I always like the looks of the gulley in front of number 9.  Does this carry over to the rest of the course?

It is an excellent "US Open Course".  It is long, tight and "fair".  It requires very few strategic decisions at all.  The terrain is excellent but the ravine front of the ninth green is the only dramatic use of the land.

I find it hard to complain about the course but it has little fun factor.

...he does occasionally act smarmy and respond to questions by saying, "your right" - effectively calling out his partners for lobbing softballs at him.

Shouldn't this raise the level of the telecasts over time...
