O/T The New Nigerian Scam
« on: June 02, 2007, 09:33:52 PM »
Has anyone heard from Sgt David Ess, U.S.Army, stationed in Baghdad?  He wants to send me $8,000,000.00 dollars for safekeeping purposes. He picked it up when cleaning out Saddam's bunker.

Shall I send him some earnest money for his troubles?

Bob

Coincidentially, we are designing a course for Ess is Turkey. A 31-hole layout that has AK-47 hazards, and land mines. Quite the routing, too. No carts...which all here will applaud. Instead, Humm-v's.

I am Sgt. Ess's agent for West Fife.  Send me the money and I will assure that it is put to good use.

The other 10 mil comes from Tom Paul, who has stuffed money for years in his mattress.

I was just reading in the paper this morning about a puppy scam they have going.

Bob,

I received a not too disimilar letter from Nigeria along the same lines a few years ago.

I forwarded it to the U.S. Attorney and the F.B.I, but, never heard a word from either organization.

I'd suggest that you consider doing the same.

Some poor soul out there might just respond to them and end up bilked out of everything.

I watched a dateline special on this a few months back.  I was amazed at how many educated people fell for this scam.  There was at least one Attorney and Doctor caught up in the Nigerian scam and lost 10s of thousands of dollars.

Shivas was that you on the dateline special?   ;D

This is way OT but I'll still reply...Here's a very creative Nigerian scam.  You place an ad in the local paper to sell something of value.  Say a piano.  This person gets in touch with you and says they saw your ad and are interested.  Currently tho they're overseas.  Would you kindly send a picture as they would like to donate it to their mother's church.  After a few emails including a request for a picture of the item they indicate they'd like to purchase it.  They will have someone pick it up and send you a cashier's check for 2k or so over the value.  They then ask you to keep the cost of the item and wire the rest to their shipper.  Needless to say the Cashier's check is no good and you're out 2k.  Very creative...

People have come to treat cashier's checks as cash and they are not (of course, cash can be fake, too...).

Anyone depositing any cashier's check should wait until your bank notifies you that the funds are actually in your account.

By happy coincidence, Bob, just this morning I received word that I have won 992,000 Euros. I'll forward it to you, and you can send it to Sgt. Ess.
