Do you really believe that your money at a private club even sniffs the bottom line?

Now there is an interesting question.  I'd say it depends on the venue, and how many of the players per day are guests at typical guest fees.

I'll take a wild stab at guessing the situation at SHGC.  I will assume that every other player there is a guest.  I think it may even be higher than that.  I'm going to guess 25 per day pay the guest fee of last I knew about $150.  There are about 120 golf days out there.  That works out to about $450K a year.  That will cover maintenance, I believe.  Add in the F&B you compensate your host, and it ain't exactly a loosing proposition for the club.

Huck,

Perhaps you never want to go back to Sand Hills, but your bitching about being uncomfortable about your share of the cost on a public forum is rude to your host and detrimental to future outings.  If you paid or your host picked up the tab should always remain between you and your host...I find it very distasteful.

JK:

Now on this you would make a decent point... that is if you took it to be complaining in any way, which it's not. LET ME SAY THIS AGAIN, LOUD AND CLEAR:  I AM NOT IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM COMPLAINING. I AM SURE AS HELL NOT BITCHING.  IT WAS ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT AND I'D DO IT AGAIN TOMORROW IF I COULD.

The fact I did it TWICE ought to prove this.... can you see that simple logic, my quick to judge friend?

It just is a good amount of money, and my host understands that.  We've also talked about it directly.

BUT... any discussion of it at all is a bit distasteful.  So it was a bad example to use.  My apologies to one and all.

Of course a decent gentleman, not to mention a friend, might point this out off-line.  I of course expect no such courtesies from you.

I don't know that I've heard of a price that I wouldn't pay for a single round at a course that I really wanted to play for the first time.  I've paid the freight at Shadow Creek, Pebble, TPC Sawgrass, Sand Hills and Riviera and other sticker shockers and did so happily.  I will admit that there are a lot of courses that I'd rather not play again because I felt that I was being gouged.  None of the aforementioned fit that description.  I guess I'd say that anything over $300 would have to be exceptional to get my repeat business.

Brother William of Baskerville!

Nice to see you passing through the aedificium.

After consulting holy writ, I must concur with your sermon.  I also use a sliding scale.

Ube Won Casale,

You know of course that I am not allowed to speak, ex cathedra, thus said sermon is not infallible.  ::) ;D
