Has anybody seen the Bunkerhill gang lately?
« on: July 20, 2006, 11:32:29 PM »
I haven't e-mailed or called Dan Proctor in quite a while.  I think Dan and his partner Dave Axeland + other bunkerhill gang members are working on a course under their banner in north Georgia all summer.  Has anyone seen what they are up to down there?

Like chances are next to zero that ol' Dan will ever type a report on GCA.com...  ::) ;) ;D
No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.

Dick, I've seen and golfed with Dan (at Wild Horse no less) recently. He is undoubtedly still the same gentleman and one of the sports great artists. He and Dave are very much interested in doing more projects that have their name on it. One, is actually close to being a done deal, but decorum prohibits me from mentioning where, or what project. As you know, it was our boy Paul H. who was inspired by the comments Dave and Dan had about his land, that has Paul working on that Georgia project.

One another note on just how great a guy Dan Proctor really is. Corey called me last week, said he got a call from Dan. Dan told him if he got a dump truck and a loader, he'd give him a week.

See, Corey's backnine, is a Marty Johnson 97'ish design. Corey has always felt the backnine needed some punching-up and a few Proctor bunkers just might do the trick. Needless to say Corey (and myself) are pretty jazzed about the prospects of having Dan around, even if it is only for a week.

Maybe you could schedule a fall trip around the work?

According to the club's web site, the course is supposed to open this year:

http://www.blueridgegolfclub.com/

Interesting note, the "Additional Amenities" link on the club web site has Tom Jackson as the architect.  I'm guessing this is a link that needs updating and he was the original architect scheduled to do the course.

Interesting.  I have to honestly admit I had no idea about this project, despite the fact that its really not that far away from me.  Of course, it seems like a new mountain community pops up here in Georgia nearly every week.

Does anybody know much more about it?

Keith.

I'd heard this was in the works. It's farther along than I thought. Can't wait to get up there to play it.

Personally, I've very happy to see Dan and Dave have another chance to leave their mark "in the dirt".  They are more than deserving of the opportunity.

Cheers,
Brad

I spoke to Dan Proctor about a month ago, as I had referred him (and a couple of other architects) for a job that we couldn't take on.  He reported that they were still working on the project in Georgia and hoped to be finished this summer.  I assume that means it won't open until next year but I didn't ask specifics.
