I was just wondering, as a big fan of Bobby, whether anyone has any photos of Peachtree? I'm dying to see what it looks like!

  FYI-Those pics are from several years ago. Peachtree went through an extensive renovation this past summer by TDI International-Greens, tees, bunkers and newly grassed zoysia fairways. Everyone that I've spoken with says that Peachtree is truely a special place. Maybe Cary will chime in with some details...I know he really enjoyed his day there.

I played Peachtree about seven yeas ago.  Going into the super-understated clubhouse was like stepping back in time.  As you can see from the pictures it is very hilly with holes going up and down, down and up, and across the hills.  It is a very imaginative routing.  When I played it, the condition was not so good.  There were a lot of bermuda runners.  Other than that it was a great day.  We played Atlanta CC the day before and met a president of a fortune 500 company.  He said "there are a lot of us at ACC. But when you play Peachtree you will meet our bosses."  Well we met no one.  We were the only players all day.  If you can get on--do it.

dont know if cameras are allowed are not, but I have never seen anyone take pics....just isn't done ala Myopia and a few other places

the real bosses comment is correct....even though most of them are retired and sitting on their pile of money.....very understated club where you will see a Buick as much as a Porsche in the parking lot...not about $$$ really, more about relationships and being born and bred in ATL...

Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

Your absolutely correct--it would not be "cool" to show up there with a "mid life crisis car"  e.g. porsche.  The real money has no need to impress (or try to) anyone.

The greens are incredible and the new look with the zoysia, bermuda, bent contrast is stunning.  There are a number of blind uphill second shots (#8, #9, #17, #18) that some people don't like but it is an absolute treat to play.  #1 is one of the finest holes anywhere.  #10 green used to be one of the largest greens in the country (on a very reachable par 5)!! and the 12th hole sits in a beautiful little valley--downhill off the tee just short of a diagonal; creek and then uphill to a green carved very nicely into the hillside.

Clubhouse is an antebellum structure and walking on the old floors hearing them "creeeek" as you go up to the lockers is pretty sweet!  Dick Murphy was the longtime pro and now they have John Gerring.  Both are absolute gentlemen and will make you feel very welcome.

OT....Martin Sama....re your new heading....can you give a  history of Glynn, as per your middle name?
I live in a colonial county named as such, in the former colony of Georgia, which was named by one of the founding and operating trustees....Gen Oglethorpe.

He had to have a reason.

.....and  is the 36" a reference to anything historical as well?....belt size or height, length or girth?

funny story about that Shell taped at Peachtree....they had to tape it over 2 days...I think due to weather problems....everyone that was allowed in had to wear the same clothes as the previous day....so the continuity of the spectators was the same

I drive by PGC everyday and wish I could join, what a golf club should be...I just have to rely on my friends who can get me on every so often!

There's a photo of No 2 in RTJ's 'Golf's Magnificent Challenge.'  I don't suppose any self-respecting contributor (or one posting under his own name) to GCA would admit to reading it, but on P262 Jones (or his ghost writer) states, 'Peachtree and Augusta National exemplify the best principles of modern golf course architecture.'  Discuss....

Peachtree, what an excellent Golf Course and experience.

I visited the course back in August 02 with Cliff Stanfield (a local from Americus Georgia) from this site as part of an organised golf tour of some 37 golf courses up the East Coast from Miami FL to Boston MA taking in the very best architecture.

We both have many many pictures as we studied the course thoroughly.  I would be happy to send you a CD.

Watch Ebay for a copy "The History of Peachtree Golf Club" by Furman Bisher. I bought a copy on ebay for about ten dollars. It's ful of great historical and recent pictures.

On the cars in the lot comment, I stayed with a southern gentlemen a number of years ago who was retired CEO of ________. He took delivery of a new car while I was there, a brand new, fully loaded...............................Buick.

  I have not had the pleaseure to visit the course. I just know that it was renovated last summer-new bunker complexes, tees complexes, zoysiagrass fairways, new bentgrass greens that were restored. I've heard nothing short of incredible and also the Mr. Shirley (and staff), golf course superintendent, did a great job of getting the course ready, open and playing in great shape.

Its amazing to me that on this web site you can ask about the 4th hole of some obscure course and get 50 responses but nobody has seen or heard about the changes (possibly major) at Peachtree.  I know a member who has asked that I come play it because he thinks its outstanding.   I'm hoping to go out in the next 2 months but trying to set up a round at ANGC as a back to back.
