A brief explanation--in a regular round of golf, no I won't look for any golf balls. Of course, if it is a match or a stroke play event, I would as a courtesy help an opponent or fellow competitor look for a ball (I still wouldn't like it
)
I last threw a club about 18 years ago and I am thankful I grew out of that nasty habit as I am sure I was being a complete d***.
Two true stories in college--finished the last four holes with bogies and still shot 69. Went to dinner, came back to the dorm and still was so pissed I broke every club in my bag.
Next--after putting like an idiot all day I tied my putter to the back of my car and drove back to the dorm dragging it the whole way--REALLY stupid since it could have come loose and caused lots of problems.
After playing I have no interest in talking about what just happened nor do I care to hear a "weather report" from anyone else's round. I have realized the worst thing to do is ask, "what did you shoot or how did you play" since with many people they interpret that as an open invitation to give me a stroke by stroke re-creation of their entire round. That was an old bad habit of mine also since cured.
I do play quickly and I would rather play for $5 and be able to give grief to my playing companions versus playing for a lot of money and having things be all serious.
I am a bit anal about terms like bunker, hole location etc.
I find playing with my wife fun and in general I think most 10 handicappers are a helluva lot more fun to play with then scratch golfers. If I play with a scratch player, I am usally able to endure that only in a formal competition.
Oh, and in team events I won't apologize for bad shots. I am trying as hard as I can and I assume my partner is too, so no need to endlessly say "sorry partner" when I am in the woods all day. Of course, if my partner (or I) "gives up" that's some BS and I wouldn't want to do that to anyone or have it done to me.
I am a good conversationalist though and as long as there is more to talk about than sports we'll have a lot of fun.
