I'm starting to get nervous now that one or two of you knowledgeable guys are showing interest!

As I am not in that class, I plan to use the book as a backgrounder of sorts to your highly-anticipated dinner address at the BUDA.

I am going to reference every point you make in the speech against what's in the book. ;)

I am reminded of some of my lecturers at Oxfrd who would simply read passages from their latest book.  As I could read the same material in bed, without the necessity of getting up, getting dressed and crossing the High Street I did.  Read the book, then you won't have to listen to what I may have to say.

I'm interested in attending the event but can't confirm anything just yet - Sean, can you send me an IM with details re: deadline dates by which I need to sign up? (I'd like to try and do at least a part of this trip, including one of the Ganton dates...)

Cheers,
Darren

I'm 90%+ sure of being there, but am waiting to see which way the dollar/pound rate goes before deciding in which currency to pay my deposit.

Dates of the competition appear to be 19-21 September from Sean's firts post.
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

Missed this on earlier presentations.  Great work Sean.  I'm almost definitely a starter but as I am newly married I better talk it over with Mrs Walsh before confirming.

I'll be in touch in the next week or so.  I won't have a cheque book for another two weeks.  Can you hold off until then on the deposit?

Looking forward to it.  I'm also a fair chance for SC and Ganton.

Sean - Anthony Shone has told me has put the dates in his diary, with a view to making a commitment closer to the time. Waiting to hear from the others.....

Born Roscommon, Eire.

Sean, The mayor has been in touch to ask that I remove you from the list of official invites to the big celebration they have planned for me next April.   ;D

Buda I (Dornoch) was by far the most international of the series.  We had Brian Phlliipssen from Norway, Ronan "Babe Magnet" Brannigan from Eire, Jerry Seydack, who was born in Poland, John Krystynak whose roots are from some other vowel-challenged country, Jeff "OOOFDAAAAH!" McDowell, who being MInnesotan, was as near as dammit to being a Canadian, Herschel Hoffman, from South Africa, Kelly Blake Moran and Steve Wilson, from  two places (Texas and West Virginia) whose statehood is qeustionable.....

However, once we moved out of Scotland, things slipped. :'(

Buda II had George (one of Tom Doak's interns, who was, I think Canadian), Ben Dewar, another Canadian who graced our presence by calling us on his cell phone, the Cajun Bernhardt and Ed Getka, the Uhruan.

Buda II had Phillip Gawith, the South African who wanted to play for the UK but we wouldn't let him, but that was about it.

Buda IV was graced by the Interplanetary Ran Morrissett, but otherwise bereft of an International flavo(u)r, unless you include the above-mentioend Mr. Muldoon, and I do (as well as the otherworldly, "Mark 'I'd tell you my real name but I'd have to kill Tom Paul....' Bourgeois")!

Buda V?  Ou est les bourgeoisie d'antan?

Your capricious spelling aside--and leaving the defense of Texas to KBM and others, I can't believe that in this day and age of the single mother, someone who can't make up his mind about his nationality is going to dredge up the old "bastard child of a political rape" slur about the Mountain State--it wasn't exactly rape as we just laid back and thought of Lincoln.  At least we hillbillies could pick the winning side, unlike Scotland and that repetitious auld alliance with France--talk about abusive relationships.

Now having done my reflexive, paranoia tinged leap to the defense of my native state, I'll slip back below the snow covered surface until Ground Hog Day at the earliest.

I'll sign up in due time, which willl immediately tip the balance in favo(u)r of we wee Merchant Bankers.  What a collection of specimens of mediocrity is represented by the rest of the world....... ;)!

I still have your WVU ball marker which is only silightly smaller than a man-hole cover.  It does the tirck in putting off opponents, and I will bring it to Buda V.

W Va. is a real state, regardless of what those poncy guys in Richmond might want to say.  My apologies.  Texas, however is another matter.  One of my favo(u)rite comments from a sportscaster (don't know whom :'() was one year when both the Astros and the Blue Jays were playing well:

"This could be the first year that the World Series is played completely outside of the United States."

I like the England v. ROW idea!  You have my imprimatur.

As for "Experience Carnoustie". buy early and buy often.  It is going to be (by Tony the Tiger standards) GREEEAAATTT!

Book me into Headlingley.  I want a shot at Mark Pearce in the nets to see if he can stand up to everything a ooustabe baseball pitcher can throw at him....

PS--I know I'm a clapped out rock star, but does that mean that Lloyd Cole is/was Little Richard?

Mark Bourgeois

Beating up on the English never gets old, does it?

Publicans v. Republicans...

Worry not, Sean

It's all part of Mark Bourgeois' cunning plan, which is working perfectly, so far!  I am just a cog in the machine.......

The first bit of trash talk and its over cricket skills?  Rich is gonna do a great job of consolidating the English side!  Its ok Rich, we have the weight of nations on our side - South Africa, Australia, Ireland & USA.  The only things the English have are the media and Maggie.

Ciao
Perhaps I should have mentioned that one of the mates I'm dragging along has played for the MCC......

No, cow corner was his favourite spot.  His average round of golf features more straight drives than an innings ever did.  As for me, I once had a field set whilst I was batting with two midwickets (hockey players wrists, which explain why I've always struggled with a hook).

Rich, one year around 1989 the LA Dodgers played the Oakland A's in the World Series.  Someone in the San Francisco Chronicle made that same comment about teams from outside the U.S.  Not sure if it was intentional self parody, but I sure thought it was funny.

There is an urban legend that the World Series was named for the newspaper that supposedly sponsored it.  From what I've read, that isn't true.  Even back then, we Americans were arrogant!

Say it ain't so...

Over here we hang on to the idea that us smart guys know it was named by the (Chicago?) World Newspaper???

And for future planning, Rye and Littlestone GCs will host the English Amateur in July, 2009. The discussions on which course to play the final match should be interesting.
