Great dinner last night with Mark Rowlinson and the NYCers
« on: October 30, 2006, 12:27:47 PM »
So the GCA Glee Club got together last night...Between Rowlinsons rich rumbling bass, Mark Chalfant's fine piercing tenor and my 3.5 octaves, we should busted out a few tunes...as it was, MIke Sweeney organized a pleasant dinner at Ossa Buco where Mark, Mark, Mike, Paul Turner, Sean Berry and David Roule sampled some terrifc veal and DEEP dishes of pasta.  Who needs patsy's when you have this crew?!

Mark, it was a pleasure having you on our island.  Hope we et to see you on yours soon.  Sweeney, as always, you're a terrific host.  Thanks to the rest of the Manhattanites for a great time as well.

I'm back in the UK now, 25 years (in a GCA sense) behind the US.  It was, indeed, a fun evening, and there was some serious discussion.  We were talking about the cost of golf in the US and the enormous joining fees you poor devils have to pay.  I arraived back to find the annual statement of accounts from my own club, Conwy.  The total turnover for the year was equivalent to joining fees for two members at Sebonack.....

Mark, I would guess the budget for most US private courses is in the 3 to 5 million dollar range. Ours is 4.2 and there is a great deal of waste.

We had a wonderful dinner with Mark and some GCAers at Merion before Mark went to NYC. I had a great time sitting next to Mark and us bending each other's ear. Unfortunatley,I had to leave early, not because I had anywhere else to go but because that was the only way I could skip out of paying my share of the bill.

I too had a pleasant evening with the old Basso. I never tire of good golf talk, but it did occur to me the amount of golf trivia we have accumulated.
