Northern MN golf at it's best in the fall
« on: October 06, 2006, 10:45:25 PM »
Enjoy these pictures of some great fall golf at awesome courses.

First 3 are of the Wilderness at Fortune Bay.  WOW  This course is nice and Jeff put together a great layout.

The next pictures are of the Quarry at Giants Ridge.  This may be one of my favorite courses ever.

You take the trip into the Tower Sudan mine while there?

Just a day trip with no time for site seeing.

Left Twin Cities at 5:00AM and Returned at 7:00PM.

Got 36 in.  18 at Wilderness and 18 at Quarry

Wow, that's an impressive day of driving/golf.

What was the temp on the first tee of the day? Yesterday was a great fall day, though.

Ryan,

I jealous!! I was planning on hitting both of these this week, but my trip to MN has been pushed out. How long are they planning to stay open?

Do you have any more to show?

Ryan,

Is that as cold as it looks? ;D  I am going to MN later today, and had actually planned to go to those courses this weekend myself until I saw a chance of rain and cold.  Of course, I have already played them several times and besides, it was opening night of hockey season and I didn't want to miss the game.

Glad you enjoyed the trip.  And, I had heard some various complaints about the fw's at GR, but they look okay, which is good to see.

It was beautiful up there last week.

49 degrees at 9:00AM tee time at Wilderness no wind at all.
58 degree at 12:30 PM tee time at Quarry, still no wind.

It was just simply perfect fall golf in Northern MN.

Here are some more pics

Astounding pictures ....... but what are they doing on GCA? Look at all those aweful trees!! Those ugly colors! I'm shocked, shocked to see target golf in the woods here!  ;)

Wilderness and Giant's Ridge are on my 'dream list'. Thanks for reinforcing the excitement.

Snow started flying here in MN yesterday.  Today it is 25 degrees with a windchill near 0.  Golf season may not last too much longer.

Enjoy the fall pics I may have been blessed to see the courses and colors at their best.

Hush, Ryan! Minnesota already gets more than its rightful share of
bad-weather PR!

I had a teacher in high school who taught me this one thing:
Not every cloud is a front.

And I say to you now: Not every hard frost is a winter.

Odds are: Our season has a month left in it.

Maybe more.

Lucked out this week in MSP - played Hazeltine Tuesday and it snow flurried Wed when we were in a seminar.

As someone said, MN golf is a four season sport - early winter, dead of winter, late winter, and early spring! ;)

I think it was James Oliver who said that.

Guy was always saying something mildly insulting.

I wonder when he ever got around to *doing* something.

I couldn't have said that better myself!

I'm thinking of a trip to Fortune Bay this weekend.

Good luck on that. I know the weather was supposed to improve, and as noted, even that far north, they usually play until at least mid october before blowing out the irrigation systems just in case they get a permanent early freeze......
