I hate how some NYC reporters call Winged Foot "The Foot"

Also..."The Beach" and "The Glass" are cringeworthy.

I have never heard anyone, media or local or anywhere, call Pebble Beach "the Beach."  That would be nauseating.

As for "the Glass", well that is somewhat cringing, but bear with us, the full name sometimes gets laborious to type, and there are a lot of other SHs we discuss.   ;)

As for "shinny" - I too find that a little too cutesy... but what are you gonna call it, the cock?

Forget abbreviated names, there is nothing worse than calling a golf course a "Track."

Bob,

What do you guys call MPCC I think North and South in casual conversation.  I would have spelled it out but didn't want to chance sp-ing the M or the P..

Shinny

That's bad, but...

Shinnythingy is by far the worst. Any post which uses this term should be promptly deleted by those with moderator status.

Ok, the worst is when golfers who don't frequent The Black, say "I'm playing Black today."

No, your not. Your playing THE Black, or THE Black course.

For those wanting to shorten Spyglass Hill:  How about "Spy"?  It's shorter than "The Glass" and waaaaaaay cooler.

Eric:

I've heard lots of people call it "Spy."

I find that to be dorky/trite/overdone... I kinda like "the Glass" - that's overdone only on this site - very few people call it that out in the real world....

Which proves that coolness is in the eye of the beholder anyway!

Bill,

I like playing the tippity tips...I miss curious JJ as he used to play so far back he had one foot in the rough.

I haven't decided if I like "nice duece" when someone birdies a par 3.

It sounds very cool when I'm the one who made the birdie, but I just can't get myself to say it when someone else does...

I recently had four 2's on my card in a two man scramble and never once referred to it as quad dueces...I hate when someone besides me has quads...
