Forty years ago I played Pauma Valley and loved everything about it. I need to go back and see whether it was irrational exuberance or not.

Tommy N.  Wasn't this a top 100'er at one time?

Bob

Bob,

Pauma Valley, upon my only play, I thought was good but not able to knock my socks off.  Perhaps most telling is the fact that beyond the first 3 holes, the 10th, and the 18th, I have a difficult time remembering too much about it.  I've seen it pop up in a "top 20 in Southern California" list or two...lists whose criteria are a mystery.

Regarding my tastes - they've changed over time considerably.  Used to be that I thought TOC looked brown and boring on TV, and I would choose courses to play based on whether or not user reviews on the internet or writeups in magazines/course guides said the course had "elevation changes".

Yep - used to loooove those elevation changes.

Cary: I don't know that my tastes have changed but I surely appreciate good architecture more than I did before I got invovled with GCA.  Strategy and playing options mean far more to me than appearance and I've learned how much fun that game can be when you view a golf course with those options in mind.

Ten years ago I hadn't been to Ireland or Scotland. The multiple trips, mostly Ireland, has changed my taste dramatically. Prior to these trips I thought playing a RTJ Sr course was as good as golf got. I still enjoy RTJ's courses but I have a different perspective.

Interesting observation: My wife said to me during our round today at the Greenbrier that she did not like the course nearly as well as 10 years ago when we were here for the first time and she liked the Old White much better (which we did not play last time).

I happened to agree with her 100%.

So I was wondering if others in the treehouse have noticed a change in their tastes either as a result of playing more, or as a result of this website or a combination of the 2??

Cary, since you don't want to give us your updated top 25, how about Bette's?!   ;D :o
