Bill Mcbride,

I bet it isn't any louder there than at Lossiemouth, on Scotland's Moray Coast, right next door to an RAF base that's only quiet on Sunday. Other days it's mind-bendingly loud.

As for road noise, how about the 7th tee at Brickyard Crossing GC, inside turn No. 2 of the Indianapolis 500 Speedway? I played there on Saturday of the race and it was a roaring hoot, with race cars, rock n' roll, sausages sizzling on the grill and naked women everywhere.

#10 at Medinah No. 3 is awful.  Par 5 tee shot that is really loud. Entire hole parallels a busy road.  They just have a fence with some tree cover. No real sound barrier.  Very different from the experience on the rest of the course which is insulated.

Walton Heath is one of the greatest courses affected by noise pollution from the M25.  Unfortunately the prevailing wind carries the noise.
