Aerial of the Day #250 - 14 Nov 2002

250 of these things already?  At revelation today, I might do
a summary of the AOTDs done so far through #250.

I will be in a meeting all morning and have just asked if
someone will fill in for the morning, but I'm not even sure
the person's around so I'm not guaranteed coverage.  
Otherwise, you'll have to wait for the afternoon unless
someone can get it on the first clue or recognizes it.

play.  does it have a roof? ;D

Okay Dave,

I'll play!  I recognized it immediately, and have played many times, just not since I moved to Texas.  The 5th and 11th Greens are my remodels.  So are a few other bunkers.  I once did a tree survey here.  It has over 6000 trees.  It has many interesting bird species in those trees, and one everywhere.

Martha Burk would not like this club.  When you walk in the front  door of the clubhouse , you are in the mens locker room!

This course is credited to Ross, Colt and Alison and MacKenzie!  I think it was routed by Ross before WWI, and finished by C and A after it.  

This club has a link to Los Angeles CC.

Only course I recall playing where the first hole (top of photo) is the number one handicap hole.

I'll think of more.

Would I have guessed this routing correct in that you would have to finish 16 green and walk around teeing line of driving range to get to 17 tee?

GG won the Hawaiian in 1975, actually
(trust me, I had to look that up) ;D ;D
And, yes why isn't DR. Burke not making
a stink about this one??  
This course reminds me of my childhood when
I used to go to Halloween parties and do a
certain game involving fruit. . . :)

I kinda liked my original clue. ::)  It's even topical.  It
originally was going to be Klink's Kinky Nemesis' Irish
Sausage, but I figured that gave too much away.  Thanks
for the compliment, Dan.   ;D

As to whether or not this course has been a target by Martha
Burke, it wouldn't surprise me if it has, because someone
here a few weeks ago mentioned that the other club in this
major metroland area with the same characteristics as this
one had been apporached by Burke & Co.  That other course
was a previous AOTD.

Then I too cracked up at Scott's
first "clue", once I knew it...

Pretty unremarkable layout from the air...
what makes this course great? I've heard
it is...

Jeff, if you are still hanging around on this one, would you say that the bunkers here at Bob-o-link are generally their original size and shape or pretty much re-shaped and resized?  I ask this because it seems to me that the bunker theme and scheme here are sort of typically what I am used to seeing from your first employers and out of the RB school.  They all seem very gaping and round to oval to kidney or stomache shaped and generally the greenside Bs are +or> than the sq ft area of the Gs.  Is that a fair assessment.  It isn't a criticism by the way, just an observation.  It reminds me of the remodelling of the Bs at Medinah by your former firm and Packard's work.

Yes, BOB (Bank One Ballpark) is the name of the D-backs stadium.

Is the link w/LACC no celebrity members allowed (other than Ditka)?

"Kinky Hogan" refers to the recently national news (because
of the movie being filmed about it) about actor "Bob" Crane,
who played (Robert=Bob) Hogan on the TV show Hogan's
Heroes and the private kinky sex life he led outside his
marriage.  The sex life was known by his wife, but she
forgave him because he was such a good father and husband
inside the home.

"Irish Sausage" = "O'Link"

Previous AOTD in Chicagoland with similar Anti-Burke
qualities = Butler National.

Da place where I saw the Da Coach throw Da 7 iron at Da Caddies and hit one without even offering d'apology....single most egregious example of golf-course related rudeness EVER!!!
