Plum Creek(Dye) in CO

Since we're talking about Pete Dye, has anyone ever played here? What's the verdict? It was done in 1984 and I've never heard about it until recently.

Steve:

They had a pretty good construction crew there:  David Postlethwait running the job, Scott Pool, Ron Farris, Jim Urbina, Jeff Potts (who does the architectural work for Landmark today), and me at the very end of the job.  A better story yet is that David's mechanic, Mike DiBlasi, climbed the ranks from mechanic to superintendent to general manager and he is now part owner of the course!

It was a TPC for a while and then not, and there was a big falling out when the people who had joined it as a TPC were suddenly out in the cold when the Tour pulled away ... that was pretty awkward.  Perry Dye eventually found some Asian buyers who honored the TPC memberships.

I have not played it in many years, but my guys in Denver say the housing has crept pretty tightly around some of the back nine holes that occupied the coolest part of the property.

As Tom stated I was part of the crew that built Plum Creek with David Postlewait for the TPC Group.  I came to Plum Creek from Austin Country Club where Rod Whitman was the project manager.  Scott Pool was a roommate of mine at the School of Golf Course operations in Lake City, Florida.  Cal Roth became the super for the place and eventually became Director of Maintenance for all TPC courses.  Mike DiBlasi indeed is the best story to come out of Plum Creek.  I stayed on after construction of the course to be an assistant supt for Cal until I returned to the construction and design side of the business.

PC held a couple of Senior tour events. The first one was a nightmare as we were washed out by a heavy rain that destroyed cart paths, flooded bunkers and basically left mud everywhere.  I remember us having a goal on Saturday of simply getting the cart path cleared and re-routed so play could continue.

Plum Creek is a nice course but the soil conditions made the growing of the fescue roughs a difficult task.  As DiBlasi today and he will tell you that was a big issue.

The biggest drawback to the course is the housing.  I played there a couple of summers ago with my daughter.  I could hardly recognize the place.

As Mr. Doak said there was some very talented people on the crew and some of them went on to be part of Riverdale Dunes, and equal if not moreso fun course to play.

Good job and kudos to Mike DiBlasi and Allen (supt).  I hope to see them at the Sturgis Bike rally sometime.

its more or less a private course now.  i think there are ways to play it-'member for a day' stuff, but i saw it profiled on tv, and as the others said, it looks like houses everywhere, so i'm not that interested.
